Long post incoming, but I'm desperate at this point and need the internet's help. (For the TLDR, check the replies for links and action items)

So my little sister Chizo has been fighting leukemia for the past 2.5 years. She's been in remission twice, once after a bone marrow transplant from our brother and then again after a CAR-T treatment after another relapse last year. She is now in her third bout of the fight, as the leukemia has returned yet again in December of last year.

She's spent the majority of this year in the hospital and they tried an alternative CAR-T treatment, which did not work this time. Afterwards, the doctors gave her two options: manage her pain and spend time with her family and loved ones until it's time to pass on, or to take a In order to address this third bout, they tried an alternative CAR-T treatment that did not work this time. 1) Manage her pain and spend the rest of her time here with her family and loved ones
2) Take a life-threatening chemotherapy treatment that can lead to heart/liver failure based on the intensity of it to bridge her to her next treatment, whether it's another CAR-T treatment or a bone marrow transplant if they find a donor.

She's a fighter, so she chose the chemotherapy treatment and is still fighting to this day. So I'm here to ask for y'alls help as she continues this fight.

This is a standard situation.

As a Senior myself, I take lot of care not to impose my own preferences during the code review (and it takes a lot of experience to understand what's an objective improvement and what's just my preference).

When suggesting an improvement, I also always explain why I think it's better. But I don't use the word "better". Never. I try to be concrete (faster, shorter, more elegant, introduces loose coupling, etc.). If I can't replace "better" with a better word, then it's just my preference, and I don't make the suggestion.

Of course, every Senior is different, in terms of communication styles and experience. Some might not do that, and you have to manage that. It's common when Juniors could be more senior than Seniors in some aspects.

At the end of the day, you, as a human, need to make a decision: do you want to be right or do you want to see your senior cry. Sometimes they need to show their authority and demonstrate that they can ask you to do unreasonable stuff. Sometimes they just dont' smart.

Ask for explanations, trade-offs, pros and cons of their solution.

Agreeing with them could help build trust and a good relationship, so maybe next time you can leverage your accumulated political capital to influence the decision your way.

If they're particularly annoying, wait patiently and strike when they're objectively wrong (bonus points if their managers can see that as well, and you gain trust with senior management quickly).
