Two and a half weeks left to apply for PhD studentship on phage and biofilms at @LSI_Exeter, @UoE_Physics and @LifeScienceBath. The science: We need a better understanding of how biofilms are protected against phages and how this protection fails: 1/4
Jacob Rees-Mogg says that "you've got to understand the history" before condemning the British concentration camps during the Boer War. Unfortunately, he doesn't. So here's a fact-check. [THREAD] 1/10 https://t.co/EFDuMrImAY
Well done to @mhwhermes for passing his PhD viva today 👌👏👏👏 and thanks to @PeterGardnerUoM and @julian_moger for examining him! 👍👍
Been sweating it out on the other side of the country. 😅🙈😳
“I didn’t know… that he was in any sense a delicate flower.”
Speaker John Bercow responds to Brexiteer Peter Bone after the MP calls Donald Tusk’s ‘special place in hell’ remark “a completely outrageous insult”.
I've been wondering what that special place in hell looks like, for those who promoted #Brexit, without even a sketch of a plan how to carry it out safely.
These two boys were in the same class at school in Leicester. Unknown to anyone, one of their classmates was in the early stages of smallpox and highly contagious. Both boys were exposed to the deadly virus, but only the boy on the right had previously been vaccinated.
2 years, 10 months and 17 days since I started my PhD in Exeter, now it’s finally done, the thesis is handed in! The feeling of relief is unbelievable. Thank you, to everyone who supported me along the way! @profnickstone Thank you, for being an incredible supervisor!

Tweeting again (and for the last time) about the three studentships at @UniofExeter, all at the interface of evolutionary biology and the physical sciences. All projects can and should be shaped by and with the student. Deadline for appl. is 7th January, 2019. DM w/ Qs! 1/4
@RoyGoodacre Eric Betzig once related this with polularity of a research field: 'The more popular a field the more people are drawn to it producing publications with little value, lowering the average signal to noise ratio of the entire field' so we need better noise filters I guess😆
@RoyGoodacre @timeshighered Isn't that a genaral trend? somehting looks more serious if it has a reference and I gues the majority of readers does not check wether the reference actually does say what the author claims it does - it is just to esay to cite somthing based on it's title just to look smart...
