The way that Argento plays with masculinity (or tries to signify that he's playing with gender) reminds me of David Lynch's films. But if you only play with gender roles to show that something is wrong/weird, why do scholars treat this as progressive? #DsonIAY19 #DeepRed

@igma10 I didn't feel the film portrayed race sophisticatedly. Moroccan soldiers did commit mass rape in the area and this story should be remembered, but the film is full of sexual harassment & violence. Yet only the black soldiers are the ones who screech instead of speaking #DsonIAY19

The film #SeducedandAbandoned tries to satirize and take down honor codes but still relies on punching down, e.g. showing women as victims. It feels like the intention is there but the execution is off. #DsonIAY19

I loved the use of angular shots in "Adelina" - everything was on a diagonal, leading your eye up. Felt like the film version of Italian art that leads your eye up to heaven, esp. w a church dome oft in background & religious themes of 3rd story #DsonIAY19 #YesterdayTodayTomorrow

@busycece1 Even though the 3 women's characterizations hinge on the usefulness of their bodies, they had agency over their romantic and sexual relationships & decisions. Felt like the only one we were supposed to condemn was Anna for her materialism, à la Silvana in BR #DsonIAY19

I found Silvana's character in #BitterRice to be contradictory -- at first she has power over Francesca, then becomes subordinate and helpless under the influence of a man. Her trajectory was a little confusing. #DsonIAY19
