PRESS RELEASE
ARREST OF FOUR (4) SUSPECTED NOTORIOUS CULTISTS, RECOVERY OF TWO FIREARMS, TEN LIVE CARTRIDGES AND A JACK KNIFE IN EGBEDA
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have recorded another significant breakthrough with the arrest of four (4) suspected notorious cultists linked to cult-related violence and other criminal activities within Alimosho and its environs.
The suspects, identified as Nurudeen Ganiu โmโ (34), Oluwaleke Fagbula โmโ (38), Emmanuel Silas โmโ (41), and Nurudeen Abdullahi โmโ (41), were apprehended following credible intelligence received regarding suspected cultists conducting an initiation ceremony at midnight within the Egbeda area of Lagos State. Acting on the intelligence, operatives of the Command launched a covert operation, which culminated in the arrest of the suspects. During the operation, one locally made cut-to-size pistol, one English Beretta pistol loaded with ten live ammunition and a jack knife were recovered from the suspects.
Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects is a notorious cult gang kingpin and a rusticated student of a University in Ogun State, who was allegedly expelled in 2022 due to cult-related activities. Investigations further established that the gang has been involved in thuggery and has been terrorising residents of Egbeda and its environs for sometime. The suspects reportedly confessed to being active members of the Eiye Confraternity, a notorious secret cult group. The gang operates by using motorcycles to launch attacks on unsuspecting members of the public and disrupt gatherings at gunpoint.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, commends the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, which led to the successful operation. He reassures residents that the Command remains steadfast in its resolve to combat cultism and all forms of violent crimes across the State. He further urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information through the Commandโs emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
