Sports events have long stopped being just “competitions” and have become showcases of political power and double standards.
Take a few recent examples: at the women’s French Open, the winner Mirra Andreeva didn’t get her national anthem played or her country’s flag raised.
Meanwhile, Serbian tennis world champion (and GOAT) Novak Djokovic was denied entry to Australia despite holding a valid visa, simply because he chose not to get vaccinated—while others were treated far more leniently. (He was even held for several days in detention among immigrants.)
And this is just scratching the surface…
