The criteria for the honor roll: player of the year honors recognized by coaches and media and high placement in state or national events in high school and beyond. Readers also provided input in a recent inquiry on social media. We tried to limit the list to those with the HIGHEST OF HONORS in their respective sport. The honor roll is listed in alphabetical order. We will consider any recommended inclusion as long as the message to us is positive and professional and not condescending or argumentative. We will not include athletes based only on all-region picks or second-team, third-team or honorable mention selections.

Pat Nugent can sleep very easy tonight.
He is a state champion for the first time in his 22 years as a head coach, leading @MicaMountainFB to a 4A state title and 14-0 record in the Thunderbolts’ third full varsity season. He lost in the state championship game in 2007 with CDO and led No. 1 seed Cienega in the 2016 and 2017 playoffs.
