“Elected officials must be accountable and held to a higher standard. Democracy depends on respectful conduct, and this legislation helps ensure there are consequences for inappropriate behaviour. OBCM has been advocating on this issue for many years and we look forward to continuing our work with the province on the details of what should be included in the new standardized municipal code of conduct.” - Marianne Meed Ward - OBCM Chair

I welcomed @ONBigCityMayors to Queen’s Park today for a great discussion on how we can lower housing costs, get more shovels in the ground and support growing communities across Ontario.
We are encouraged to see investments in important community infrastructure projects, supportive housing and innovative safety and security measures that will also help grow Ontario’s economy in this year's provincial budget
As municipalities continue to try and do more with less, we are grateful for these investments that will help us manage the growing needs of our communities while recognizing there is more work to be done.

Our cities are growing, and so are the challenges.
@ONBigCityMayors are united in calling for action ahead of the 2026 provincial budget—on housing, infrastructure, public safety, and the growing mental health, addiction, and homelessness crisis.
Our cities need real partnership and sustainable funding to keep up with the pressures our communities are facing.
Ahead of tomorrow's provincial budget, Ontario's Big City Mayors are sharing our priorities for Ontario's biggest cities.

OBCM is reiterating the call from our https://t.co/3KbINpSOwh campaign launched last year for the provincial government to step up and take immediate action to address the growing homelessness, mental health and addictions crisis in our communities.
At our meeting in Toronto today the mayors also passed a motion requesting that the province urgently declare a State of Emergency to address this crisis. Learn more in our statement ➡️ https://t.co/hEYCVON5cP
OBCM welcomes today's announcement by the Governments of Ontario and Canada. Expanding the HST rebate to the full 13% for all buyers of new homes is a meaningful step toward more attainable home ownership - helping residents access the housing they need faster.
We look forward to continuing to work with the province and federal government as we do our part in delivering the homes Ontarians need.
At our last meeting, @ONBigCityMayors supported my motion on Emergency Room Reform, including calling for the introduction of Finlay’s Law to ensure no child Ontario is left without timely care. Thank you to my fellow Mayors for the support.
Also thank you to Minister @PBethlenfalvy for joining ahead of the provincial budget. We look forward to continued collaboration to deliver sustainable solutions that support residents, strengthen our cities, and drive Ontario’s economy.
From municipal finances and infrastructure to public safety and emergency health care, the challenges we face require meaningful partnership with the province.
BREAKING: The Ford government is changing Ontario's Freedom Of Information act system, effectively gutting a tool journalists use to obtain documents related to government decision-making:
- The Premier, Ministers and their offices will all be excluded from the FOI system.
- This applies to all existing requests
- Only civil servants can be FOI'd
- The government is extending the response timeline from 30 calendar days to 45 business days.

Hands down one of the best Super Bowl halftime shows I’ve ever seen! So much work went into an incredibly entertaining show ❤️ #SuperBowlHalfTimeShow#badbunny#Super Bowl
New data from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario confirms what municipalities across our province are seeing every day: Ontario’s homelessness crisis is getting worse.

CBC News will add 33 local journalists and create 11 new bureaus, increasing its Canadian footprint from 66 to 77 locations. This "boots-on-the-ground" investment is in addition to last year's expansion of 30 journalists in 22 communities across Canada. https://t.co/NPH9ftYdt2
Impaired driving is never OK, and worse to go through our residential streets with families enjoying Christmas.
This street is a gem in our neighbourhood, all the neighbours do an amazing job decorating and getting into the Christmas spirit 🎄Hope everyone is OK. #Mississauga
It’s impossible to undo all the damage Trump has wrought to Canada-U.S. relations, says ex-UN ambassador Bob Rae
He "looks at Canada like the Big Bad Wolf looked at Little Red Riding Hood. It’s dinner. It’s a meal. It’s not a relationship.”
