Looks like I’ll be heading to Porto for 4-5 months. Lisbon rents pretty expensive considering it’s winter. Lucky my wife and I prefer Porto over Lisbon anyway!
Even found a Gym where possibly I can train Olympic weightlifting. Guess I’ll find out when I get there.
If anyone has any recommendations for Olympic Weightlifting gyms in Porto please let me know!
Once it happens I believe it’ll never be the same. After going through the standard rehab procedure the only thing that has helped me was getting into Olympic weightlifting where you basically fling heavy weights over your head.
I now have Greek God shoulders and they feel strong af.
However, you have to build up to it and I’m still mindful of the fact that one day I’ll lift something too heavy and my shoulder will pop out and I’ll probably die.
@vrexec Yeah I did the same 2 years ago. Best thing I ever did. No more tracking company returns. No more wondering why some company crapped itself on earnings, and trying to figure out the future. Spend more time on creating now.
Looks like living in Bangkok is on hold. I’m off to Portugal instead! Some unexpected good luck sees my wife and I most likely living in Lisbon. Life throws some curve balls sometimes.
Selling anything for free on Facebook Marketplace is like opening the gates of hell. Tonnes of messages flood in from rando’s who ghost you when they’ve said they’ll pick up the goods.
Just found out that you can pick up a pdf version of Bob Takano’s weightlifting book. Was getting sad to leave it behind when I hit the road in the near future. One of the original great coaches in US weightlifting.
You won’t learn how to snatch or clean and jerk from the book, but it’ll describe concepts to help you perform better.

@SwiftOnSecurity Yeah I’d weep every time I saw it at the Higashi Fuji test track Toyota owned. Truly an awesome car. Though not in the same league I wouldn’t mind to own a new Toyota Supra.
@Paul_Wischmeyer Yeah this is bs. My shoulder dislocation was extremely painful, but having it go back in place at hospital was done by using muscle relaxants, pain control medication (lots of it) and gentle movements. Didn’t even feel it pop back in.
Feel like coding is going the way of physical street maps before GPS.
We can still use physical maps but it’s a pain in the ass.
Coding without AI in the future will be a pain in the ass.
My wife working in clean energy has some thoughts.
In 2026 European airfares going to double or possibly more due to
- minimum SAF aviation fuel requirements that if aren’t met airlines will face a surcharge.
- carbon emissions taxes
Both come into effect 2026. They’re not small costs as well. It will be quite substantial.
There aren’t many SAF plants coming into production so the surcharges will definitely be applied.
The EU has some money available to airlines in the short term to offset the SAF surcharge but I think it’s only for first year or two.
Enjoy your cheap flights while they last!
It may provide the stimulus to try the EU train system instead of taking flights!
Worked as a kid in a shitty farm job on holidays. Decided manual labour not for me. Became an engineer. Worked in high stress corporate engineering companies up until late 40’s then hit the corporate retirement button. Now catching up on travel, experiences and doing what I want.
I think it’s great that there isn’t one rule that fits all.
