There he backed bold founders, led the investment in Instagram, and helped build companies like YouTube, Square, MongoDB and more that touch hundreds of millions of lives.
Today he leads one of the world’s most iconic venture firms, a South African Afrikaner shaping the global tech future from Silicon Valley.
Recently, Roelof was appointed to the SpaceX Board of Directors as an independent director and audit committee member.
The biggest opportunities often lie beyond what feels comfortable or familiar.
Roelof didn’t just chase success.
He carried the quiet determination of his roots and turned it into a legacy that opens doors for dreamers everywhere.

For some its the most amazing day in USA but for others its a sad day of loss.

The Lubbe family has lost a loved one, the breadwinner of the house. The pillar of strength. The Super Hero dad.

A message from the daughter of a lost father:

"Our family is facing the most difficult time of our lives after the heartbreaking loss of my father. What was meant to be a heart bypass surgery turned into a devastating tragedy. After the surgery, his heart and lungs gave out. Blood filled his lungs, and his heart could no longer keep beating. Despite every effort to save him, he passed away.

He leaves behind my mother, my 5-year-old brother, my 2-year-old sister, and me.
My father was everything to our family. He was our provider, protector, source of strength, and the person we depended on every day. His loss has left a hole in our lives that can never be filled, and we are heartbroken as we face life without him.

We are raising funds to help our family with essential living expenses, including rent, food, gas, and other everyday necessities as we try to navigate life without him. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help provide stability for my younger siblings and ease some of the burden as we grieve and adjust to this new reality.

Do yourself a favor. Take the cheapest Peanut Butter you can find and Bicarbonate powder. Find a cheap takeaway dish. Put a big spoon of PB and a teaspoon or two of Bicarb and mix well. Place into container and put it in your roof by the trapdoor. In a week your unwelcome visitors will be gone, and animals like owls will NOT be impacted by eating the carcusses. Works like a charm
