It was a diary entry Lola had thrown away as a child which said her dream was to win Olympic rowing gold. Her dad had kept it.

A big thank you to the students and staff from @trevscollege who attended todays beach clean at Noses Point. As you can see we collected a lot of rubbish including ghost netting and industrial reminders from the coal mining years.

This male sumatran orangutan is Raku: he got a wound on his right cheek. Scientists were surprised to spot him applying a medicinal plant on his face: akar kuning (Fibranaurea tinctoria), a type of climbing vine that acts as an analgesic.

After about 8 days he applied the chewed stems and leaves of the plant, the wound began to heal and in approximately a month he completely recovered.

This series of observations undoubtedly constitutes the conclusive proof of the level of ingenuity that these majestic animals have.

What an absolute privilege it was today taking part in the rescue of a stranded porpoise at Seaham - we wish her well ❤️

Today BDMLR were alerted to a stranded Porpoise at Seaham. Volunteer medics included a mixture of old and new SeaScapes staff who knew the area well. The team managed to re-float the Porpoise and we hope that she can now continue to swim and feed along our amazing coastline 🐬

A big thank you to the volunteers from PX Limited who carried out a beach clean today at Seaton Carew. We collected a total of 30 bags and removed equipment that would have quickly become an entanglement hazard for marine wildlife.
