David Attenborough has spent years sounding the alarm on factory trawling, and he’s right: bottom trawling is one of the most destructive practices in our oceans. Alaska needs leaders willing to stand up to the trawling lobby and protect our fisheries before it’s too late.
Monk seal attacker’s lawyer says he was radicalized by extremist anti-pinniped rhetoric from fishermen and politicians in Washington:
“He lives in Washington State, he’s a fisherman… and if you’re familiar… if you’ve ever been to Seattle… the sea lions are very aggressive.”
The measured waste alone Trawling in Alaska is ecocide.
The unquantified damages to the seafloor is sickening.
@NOAAFisheries is corrupt for promoting trawling.
@MeatEaterTV
Genetic testing of salmon bycatch can take months or even a year to complete.
Anyone who says the chinook are not Western Alaska bound is quoting old data.
@NOAAFisheriesAK@NOAAFisheriesAK makes a big deal out of one sea lion.
Meanwhile, they allow industrial trawlers to kill hundreds of seals and sea lions.
The Yukon River’s fish population is in serious trouble, with thousands of pounds of halibut and king salmon lost as bycatch to bottom trawling.
The numbers are concerning, and it’s clear that a solution is needed now more than ever.
@MaryPeltola From dragging large cables across the sea floor to midwater trawling, Seatle based factory trawlers decimate everything in their path.
Even flocks of birds that are drawn into their lights at night and crash into the boats rigging.
Please support ($) Mary's campaign!

Our fish are being taken and our freezers aren’t getting filled. Alaskans want to stop factory trawling from wrecking our fisheries, but DC people and their corporate donors are standing in the way. We can’t save our fisheries until we fix this rigged system.
