@mikepat711 At home, $0.13/kWh and 4 mi/kWh costs under $0.04/mi.
On Supercharger highway road trips, $0.30-0.40/kWh and 2.5-3 mi/kWh makes it $0.10-0.15/mi.
With gas prices about $3-4/gal, you only need about 30 MPG to match that (for road trips).
@mikepat711 The Sonata cost you a little more than you think. You’re only factoring in the fuel in the middle of the trip.
Tesla on road trips hurt two ways - reduced highway range and high Supercharger kWh rates. I get 4 miles per kWh at home, but more like 2.5-3 at highway speeds.
@SantoroSystems 100% agree. Tesla has an incredible wealth of data from the fleet that they aren't utilizing. A automatic feedback loop on potholes and speed bumps would be perfect. They could also dramatically improve their mapping detail with a feedback loop. @elonmusk@aelluswamy@Tesla
@bilalsattar@niccruzpatane@wholemars Or realize that broken FSD streaks indicate a failure of FSD, not of the driver. Worst feature ever. It incentivizes the wrong action. This feature needs removed, @aelluswamy@Tesla
@contractorsPOV Yeah, you'll want to limit that speed sooner rather than later. Might as well Chill.
It's amazing what Tesla has done with the charging infrastructure so far, but I'm looking forward to when EV charging stations are as common as gas stations (and some competitive prices).
@DirtyTesLa Only tangentially related, but one thing FSD parking really needs is to let us pull up a satellite view of a destination while enroute and choose a preferred area or spot. And remember it for next time. The default location for most points of interest are horrible.
@MattWallaceTech Worst feature ever by Tesla. It gamifies the wrong action. This will reduce the feedback loop and train US to accept poor FSD decisions rather than training FSD to make better decisions.
I'm surprised and disappointed that nobody thought this one through...
@wholemars My top three, not necessarily for the next release but as soon as reasonable:
1) Learn/train to park in my garage, or other preferred spots
2) Pothole avoidance
3) Fleet collection/supplementation of mapping detail
@SawyerMerritt@Tesla I would love to see it as an option for rentals. Never even considered that I could pay $99 to subscribe for a rental. (Can you really do that?) Might be worth that in some rentals, but a daily and weekly rate sure would be nice.
@Teslaoldguy@DevinOlsenn It's been closer to about $3.50/gal where I live (and about US$6/gal I believe in Vancouver, BC, where @DevinOlsenn lives). Interestingly, I think electric rates are a bit lower in Canada than here, too. Both of those explain why he sees bigger savings than I do.
@surfranchvibes It’s easier to demonstrate than to explain, but I like to tell people, “It’s like a private chauffeur who’s available 24 hours a day to take me wherever I want to go for under $100/mo.”
@contractorsPOV I’ve wondered the same thing. I’ve seen it well over an hour before arrival, in moderate temperatures.
Looking at the detail page that shows how much of the charge is used for what, conditioning is very small, so I think it’s probably worth it.
@MattWallaceTech I’d like to see it figure these things out on its own rather than us need to teach it. I don’t need to tell my 16-year old how to park in the garage. He’s seen me do it and does it without having to be taught. There’s no reason a Tesla shouldn’t be smarter than a 16-year old.
