@MetsNewsMoves “Praise in public, reprimand in private”—leadership tool I learned in the Navy. Guarantee Steve has let Stearns know displeasure as to some items. I agree w/ his investment risk analogy—some players were bad bets. Others (Soto & Lindor) are like Coca-Cola & Apple but got hurt.
@BatyIsKing_ My note above about Edwin Diaz seems to be aging nicely like a fine Italian red. As for Pete, he was going to have at least 1 good year (more likely 2) & bully for him doing so. His last few years in Baltimore, however, could bring back memories of the Glenn Davis contract.
@BatyIsKing_ Even w/ good #s last year, velo was dropping. If continues, hitters can sit on slider. That happens, he’s toast. Mets may have exited this particular carousel at right time. Alonso under .800 OPS in Baltimore bandbox prob same. Subtractions weren’t problem, the replacements are!
@SalsaPrice I’m pretty sure that the resupply was waiting at the mail buoy. Did they cease the mail buoy watch? (And any REAL sailors seeing these posts would get the joke—including those experiencing that really shitty deployment currently).
@theblockspot They need to start by sweeping the Padres (which well could get them down to 8 GB). One down, two to go. And 6 of the 7 teams between the Mets and the WC3 berth all lost tonight (only Reds won). Many more of these nights needed, but today was a good day.
@Masterflip_ Only way it gets interesting is w/ sweep of Padres next at home. They do that, could be 8 GB last WC spot w/ 34 left. Nats/Pirates/Reds all scuffling, a sweep could catch them. Then it becomes Cards/Fish/D-backs/Padres. Padres sweep gives needed possible 3 game gain on WC3 spot.

@crusade_enjoyer Did this during DESERT STORM in the Red Sea as change of command prank. Outgoing admiral had our helo deliver 3 pigs to a carrier and then bolt. My sailors cared for pigs for a week b/f prank was sprung. They were getting sunburned so we had to make a pen for them on weps deck!
@khond504@Lukinfly45@BatyIsKing_ I predicted to my Opening Day crew (20+ years straight except for COVID) that Pete in Baltimore MIGHT have two big years that would make us cringe, but the next three would fall off significantly such that he could be the second coming of Glenn Davis in Baltimore (look him up)!
To be honest, I had no clue what product I was going to get when I bought these Rush tix last fall. I did NOT expect this solid of a show—they are tight as hell. Some take potshots at Geddy’s vocals, but they’re pretty damn good & he hasn’t had to drop a key on almost anything.
A nice treat—we got Red Barchetta tonight on night one at MSG. Excuse the unsteady camera — one of my favorites and I was bopping a bit (I’ve got a gas guzzling 1993 Nissan 300ZX that is getting closer and closer to the uncle’s 50 year old sports car in the song!).
Closing of first half of Rush’s first show at MSG was Spirit of Radio. Crowd going nuts. This was an hour and twenty minutes in. Somme call that a show — they called it halftime!
@sullyengels It looks like the sun was shining from the third base line towards second base (you can see the light around second base), so bouncing the ball kept it out of the sun and gave the second baseman turning the DP a better chance to see the ball. Very smart (and cool).
@ZeusRebirth To be fair to the 9 year old, if it’s the scene I am remembering, he was a black kid creeping closer & closer to white SA cops listening to the rugby match. It’s a great scene and requires some interplay with the adults as he tried to figure out “how can I listen to this match?”
@PhillyStpeteFl I saw them play a charity event 20 yrs ago where they sorta did a “Behind the Music” for each song. They created the dueling guitars bit starting DOA while doing laundry at Richie’s parents’ house. Afterwards, I told my wife “that song alone was worth the price of admission.”
And I couldn’t end this series of posts without adding “Dead or Alive” — Bon Jovi live for the first time in 4 years earlier tonight at Madison Square Garden.
Thanks for the likes and reposts for the Bon Jovi videos. Rush at MSG is next on July 28. Keep an eye out and I’ll probably should post some of that as well.
@GBbeliever4life I saw them in an 800 person audience at the Manhattan Ballroom 20 years ago (charity benefit for Stand Up for Cancer & Sloan Kettering — Richie’s dad was at SK). After they played it live that night, I turned to my wife & said “that song along was worth the price of admission.”
