We are not watching the 4 best teams in the world cup. As long as Fifa gets to pick and choose who gets called for what, it will always be a max extraction betting and tourism circus.
Norway got robbed.
TIL that #Fifa ball sensors are sensitive enough to detect collisions with a lock of hair but not for a complete direct revert. Sorry #Croatia. Sorry #Norway.
A critical element that the "rulebook purists" arguing Balogun deserved a red card are conveniently overlooking:
BALOGUN was the one who was challenged from behind.
The Bosnian player played *through* Balogun from behind and placed himself in the path of Balogun's natural step.
When he begins taking that step, Balogun has no idea the Bosnian player would even be in front of him. In that sense, you can't really even consider his move a "challenge." It was simply a step that incidentally landed in the same place the opponent's foot did.
In fact, the reason Balogun's step came down so hard is *because* the Bosnian player challenged into him and knocked him off balance.
This is not "reckless" or "excessive force" by any stretch of the imagination.
The red card was *obviously* unjustified from the outset. The only thing FIFA got wrong here is not immediately suspending the red card after the match.
The amount of crying coming out of Belgium right now is insane. My roommate in college was from Belgium. They have good chocolate But let us not forget they declared neutrality in both World War 1 and WW2 and got conquered twice in short order just like they will be conquered tomorrow night. Sometimes might makes right. Without the USA there probably is no Belgium or World Cup at all or at the very least it’s a 3 team tournament consisting of the United States, Germany and Japan. So yes when one of our best players is wrongly suspended its clearly in the best interest of world sport for that decision to be reversed
This narrative that the World Cup is rigged for the US just doesn’t add up:
- Placed on the side of the bracket with Germany, Morocco, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and France
- Refereeing across all 4 US matches has not been favorable to the US
- Were given a red in a knockout match with 30 minutes left to play
This is the supposed “corruption” in favor of the US?
The real investigation needs to be made on the preferential treatment of Argentina.
I am having a drink this evening with a friend in a Chiswick pub. Two policemen have just come into the pub and asked me to step outside. I have stepped outside and they have threatened me because I tweeted about a councillor banning seating outside pubs in Chiswick. They admit on video (watch it!) that I did not break the law at all. They came to threaten me. To warn me off tweeting about councillors and the council. This is modern Britain. This is the police state. Please, please, please watch this video. It does involve me using very bad language, but this has got to be seen. Police coming out to threaten someone who hasn’t committed a crime. I’m fuming.
Pochettino and US Soccer should not accept that the Balogun red card "cannot be appealed." If FIFA's own officials are not going to follow VAR protocols, we shouldn't feel obligated not to appeal the decision. Keep calling. Keep asking to speak to someone who can actually help.
