To end 2025 Anúna release Transcendence, an 11 song collection of spiritual and ritual music by Michael McGlynn. Now on Bandcamp (https://t.co/TkwYoAALAA) & on all streaming services December 31.
This is part of the title track "Transcendence" featuring Lynn Hilary.
Another one that had a viral surge in the last while. I wrote "Mariam Matrem Virginem" for @Anuna_Choir in 1995. Les Itinérants breathed new life into it and it went massive. Thank you guys.
1. Les Itinérantes: a French trio, not only amazing artists but also wonderful people to sing/hang out/tour with - from late night voice messages about the meaning of life to this spontaneous rendition of Michael McGlynn's "Mariam Matrem". They're on Spotify!
Smashing it once with "Ceann Dubh Dílis" this is Spokanki lashing my old banger "Dúlamán" to the mast and flogging it. Surprising how many people think these are traditional Irish songs. But music education isn't a big thing here.

"My Sweet, Dark-Haired Love"
"Ceann Dubh Dílis" is a traditional Irish Gaelic love song by composer Michael McGlynn, performance by the vocal group Spokanki.
Warmest congratulations to Michael McGlynn, one of Ireland’s most influential composers, who has his unique contributions to Irish music and culture recognised with an honorary doctorate from UCD. 🎼
Since founding the vocal ensemble Anúna in 1987, McGlynn has created a body of work that blends early choral traditions, sean-nós singing and the Irish language into a strikingly original sound.
McGlynn’s music has been performed worldwide, with professional choirs regularly featuring his compositions. His work has inspired the new generation of Irish composers behind the current renaissance in choral music.
“The sound-world that Michael McGlynn has created has produced a body of compositions which not only imagine Ireland, but which represent this country with such conviction and authenticity to the world at large.” – Professor Harry White, UCD School of Music, who delivered the official citation.
A graduate of UCD’s School of Music, McGlynn has long been part of the university’s community, and was recognised previously with a Distinguished Alumni Award and a Creative Fellowship.

Found in a sock drawer. 2011 - we had a bash in Dublin for the 25th Anniversary of ANÚNA . I can remember thinking "this is pretty much the end of it all". 15 years later, new recordings, new tours and a plan for our 40th next year in 2027. Now we are three with M'ANAM & Systir
You can catch this illuminating interview with Michael McGlynn on the Icelandic @RuvEnglish podcast today. Definitely worth a listen - all about the new album Eilífð.

We are releasing this next week for Easter. https://t.co/Iy9MVLs7Ek - "Quis est Deus" by Michael McGlynn. Ancient words to beautiful new music. We all need a bit of beauty on this crappy platform.
