The research in this book shows how having access to social media at such a young age is a direct cause of mental health issues in teenagers. Parents need to be more attuned to these issues and act collectively for the benefit of their children.
Brilliant interview by the author on last Saturday's @RadioBrendanRTE . If you're a parent with a tween/teen listen back on the player you won't regret it. The damage social media and the gaming world is doing to young children is profound, serious and consequential.
It was great to be at the Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre today for the sensory friendly Christmas Fair. A great community day. Funds raised today go to support the work of @AsIAmIreland
Today's budget is about investing in the now and future. @AsIAmIreland is calling for greater investment in our education system. Better support for carers & those on disability allowance. Our pre budget submission is available here https://t.co/5fiiD3j24v
It was a real joy to be at the launch of the publication of the book "Special Education in an Independent Ireland 1922-2022" by Professor Emer Ring, a stalwart, friend and change maker when it comes to inclusive education. Looking forward to reading this.
It’s just over 1 month to go until @AsIAmIreland National Conference. We have an incredible line up of speakers including @SheffieldLuke@milton_damian, Rosie King and Fiacre Ryan. Join us in “Navigating the journey towards the same chance”. https://t.co/Lgl9PRXgSP…
Our special School starting back Monday after 9 weeks off and no idea who our teacher is, who the snas are or even bus escort. It's very easy to start a school year off well and this is not it. @1Hildegarde@ncseirl@NormaFoleyTD1@Education_Ire@ncseirl @campaign4carrig
Whilst many children & young people started back to school today, there were some cohorts of young people left behind. Every year we hear from parents without a school for their child. The system must do better, we are failing our young people. The Same Chance is not given.
The Autism Innovation Strategy will create a tangible reference point for Autistic people and families in supporting them to live in a society that is inclusive. This Strategy has been in the making for many years. The next step is to ensure it is underpinned by legislation 💪
What an incredible day we had yesterday for our 5k run4autism. Made even that bit more magical with the good weather. Thanks to all those who support this event year on year.
Join us on July 28th in Corkagh Park for this year run4autism. If you can't be with us on the day you can signup to our virtual run and receive a jersey/medal and stringed bag. Bígi linn
To my knowledge, this is the first autism friendly Debs ball in Ireland. Congratulations to David Hickey and others who have helped to organise it @AsIAmIreland - let's help them to spread the word!
Assault is a criminal offence covered under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act. To prove assault one must show intention to commit such a crime. Unless we can prove intent we need to move away from such language as it's punitive, regressive and damaging.
