I did some math this week and it honestly shocked me.

Imagine you had ₦100,000 in 2016.
Back then, that was about $500.

If you left that ₦100,000 sitting in a savings account in naira, inflation and devaluation have quietly eaten it. Today, that same ₦100,000 is only worth about $73.

But what if you had put that $500 into dollar assets instead?

The naira has moved from ₦199/$1 to over ₦1,360/$1.
That crash hurts if your money is in naira.
But it helps if your money was already in dollars.

Here’s what that $500 would look like today if it went into some of the most talked-about stocks and assets:

If you bought NVIDIA, your ₦100,000 would be worth about ₦96 million today.
Bitcoin?About ₦91 million.

Even AMD would have turned it into ₦42 million.

The big names did well too.
Eli Lilly: ₦27M.
Tesla: ₦16M.
Apple: ₦8.4M.
Microsoft: ₦6.4M.
Amazon: ₦4.6M.

And it wasn’t just tech.
The "boring" stuff still won.
The S&P 500 would have turned ₦100k into ₦2.8M.

Gold would have turned it into ₦2.2M.

JPMorgan would have turned it into ₦2.9M.

The point isn’t that you should have predicted NVIDIA 10 years ago.

Nobody did.

The point is this: a diversified portfolio with USD backed assets grew and got a shield from the naira’s decline at the same time. So we aren’t saying don’t invest in Naira, we are saying hold a diversified portfolio.

You can’t go back and invest in 2016.
But you can decide what you do with your money in 2026.

It is disappointing because I suffered a small setback, and suddenly it feels like I am of no importance to an organization that was literally my concept. I guess the people you have added now bring more value, but let’s not forget that I funded the inception 100% and was also publicly asking people for donations and support.

It is not like I have any interest in fighting over the organization or claiming anything. I just think basic respect and acknowledgment would have required you to speak to me before taking such a major step.

I am genuinely disappointed by how Igbo people behave amongst themselves and how this was handled has shown once again that we truly are what people say we are.

I've been reading the reactions to this post and I honestly, I am disappointed in our people!

I was here in 2024/2025 when Gaius Chibuzo & Alex Onyia and other began this initiative.

That Alex registered the initiative without giving Gaius a notice isn't right.

Today, I expressed our commitment to the immediate flag-off and successful delivery of the Aba Commercial Smart City project, a transformative initiative that has the potential to redefine Aba as a modern commercial and technology-driven hub.

During a business meeting with the leadership of the project at Government House, Umuahia, I charged all project partners to fast-track the necessary processes so we can move from planning to implementation. In Abia, we do not believe in abandoned projects. We only embark on projects we are determined to complete.

I also directed the DG/CEO of the Public Private Partnership and Investment Promotion Office, Mr. Chinedu Chijioke, to work closely with the project team to ensure the State is ready for the project's flag-off.

I appreciate the commitment shown by the CEO of Aba Commercial Smart City and former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, who described the project as one that will restore Aba to its pride of place, as well as the Board of Trustees Chairman, Sir Dr. Mike Okiro, former Inspector General of Police, and the Founder and President of Aba Commercial Smart City, Ambassador Osita Offor (Ultimate Commander), who presented a financially realistic framework for the project.

The team also informed us that, through their financial adviser and partnering banks, they have secured an initial ₦20 billion to commence the project.

The Aba Commercial Smart City promises to be a game changer for our State. With technology, innovation, and strategic partnerships driving its development, we remain committed to ensuring that this vision becomes a reality for the benefit of Ndi Abia and generations to come.
