I don't usually talk about myself or tell my own story, but @JIsraelUBS convinced me to join him on his Success Unscripted podcast and I'm so thankful that he did.
I sat down with @MichaelUgino to tell the story of how he founded his tech company at age 29, sold it 7 years later to @GoDaddy, and nearly died multiple times in the process - including an attempted homicide on his life! You will not believe this story!

When CNN is telling you California is a one party shit show, you need to listen.
I live here in Santa Monica and I don't know anyone, and that includes Liberal friends that fly private and live behind iron fully security guarded dates, that will tell you this city and this state is not run like garbage and that they haven't ruined every good business out here, including the film and television business.
The fact that people out here keep voting 'D' tells you three things, A) they desperately want to be liked, cool, kept, invited, and lionized.
B) They don't give a damn about the middle or the lower class, and most important, C) They can't pull themselves out of their bitch boy and La-dee da- Liberal white gal bubbles and vote for true change. It's not in them to do that. They're a lost generation of spoiled rich kids and rich kids friends that would never dream of telling or talking the truth about what's happening out here.
It's just too big of a mind-shift to admit they've been flat out wrong and do or even say something different.
Hence we get; Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom.
History's first trillionaire is a guy who catches rockets out of the sky with chopsticks and beams internet to every dead zone on the planet.
Same guy ships cars that drive themselves, humanoid robots for the factory floor, brain chips that let paralyzed people move a cursor with pure thought, and an AI running on a supercomputer his team stood up in months instead of years.
And the people crashing out about his net worth are doing it on the app he owns. The same app governments spent years trying to censor.
You cannot legislate a rocket into orbit.
While I’m no fan of socialism or arbitrary confiscations of wealth, I can see why Bernie Sanders’ proposal (for the government to take a 50% stake in AI companies) resonates, including with many on the right.
The CEOs of the leading AI labs have told us repeatedly that they will cause massive job loss. This is not a story that I believe, nor does the data bear it out, but this is what they have told us. Similarly, they have hyped the risks of AI without putting an equal or greater emphasis on the benefits or readily available mitigations.
Conservatives have another fear. The employees of the leading labs claim to be philanthropic, but what we’ve seen is massive enrichment of NGOs advancing an agenda at odds with traditional values, fueling a revolution against our cities and communities. Soros-maxxing is not charity in our book.
Anthropic and OpenAI have established themselves as Public Benefit Corporations. What could be more in the public benefit than using half the wealth generated by these companies (which trained for free on the collective knowledge of humanity) to pay down the national debt? There is no ideological bias in that philanthropy.
Dario and Sam have begun to walk back their claims of massive job loss, but the damage to public trust is done, and now the chickens are coming home to roost. I could almost support the Sanders proposal as a stupidity tax.
There’s just one problem. Nationalization of AI will accelerate the corporate-government fusion we’re already sliding toward. Conservatives rightly fear a Central Bank Digital Currency. They ought to be even more concerned about Central Government AI — a system with even more totalistic power over information, decision-making, and human behavior.
We saw how social media was weaponized to censor conservatives (including President Trump) in the last Democrat administration. The definition of “trust & safety” expanded to mean protecting the public from supposed psychological harms, micro-aggressions, and disinformation (you know, like hearing conservative ideas or true facts about Covid).
That “safety” agenda as applied to AI will be vastly more powerful and Orwellian. AI won’t just moderate posts; it will curate reality — with the ability to rewrite history, enforce ideological conformity, influence policy at scale, mass surveil Americans, and condition the benefits of the many systems it controls on approved behavior.
America won’t win the AI race if we beat China but end up with a CCP-style social credit system in the U.S. — and that is the danger as the government becomes more deeply involved in AI development and assumes direct ownership and control.
Conservatives are right to fear where this is all headed but ought to think more carefully about how regulations they are flirting with now (that are widely celebrated among those with a long history of lust for Big Government) will be used against them the next time a Democrat administration is in power.
Underrated life advice: Have more hobbies and fewer opinions. Learn an instrument. Plant a garden. Build something with your hands. Cook. Paint. Run. The happiest people I know spend less time debating life and more time actually living it.
Western self-condemnation has become a cheap form of virtue theatre. Its peak is behind us .
people mistake condemnation for morality and morality for analysis and that’s the confusion because it blinds you from seeing the real culprit.
It's not just want one particular culture or society is all humans
People mistake denunciation for wisdom. Condemning “the West” has become a way of advertising virtue, as though civilisation’s failures belong to one colour, one culture, one empire, one half of the human race. and that civilisations successes must be denied in every respect. It’s a way of brainwashing. It’s just an alternative form.
The ancient books warn against this. They knew moral vanity would take out a rational discussion eventually and then end in even more chaos.
Cruelty is human. Greed is human. Tribalism is human. So is conscience, invention, mercy, law, repair and sacrifice. just read history self evident and undeniable. Nobody gets a free pass. You’ve gotta be accountable all of us for the whole of human history. Even the bits you don’t like.
The task is not to pick a team and scream from the terraces. The task is to understand the whole human system clearly enough to ( help ) stop repeating its patterns. collectively yelling at it isn’t gonna change a thing.
At the moment, much of the world looks like rival mobs of football hooligans, each convinced its own side is pure and the other side is barely human.
Give me a break.
The moment you reduce history to a jersey, a flag, a skin colour or a tribe, you have stopped thinking.
You dont want a yacht. You dont want a big house. You dont want a super car, a $40,000 watch, or shoes you worry about getting dirty. You want free will.
You want to wake up naturally on a Tuesday and you want to go to bed when you’re done having fun. You want to say yes to everything that excites you without having to request time off. You want to go to the the gym at noon, in absolutely no hurry. You want to spend 18 hours a day doing what you love. You want to be exactly where you desire being, always. You want to spend as much time with the people you care about as possible.
You’re saying you wanna be rich? In what?
Everyone who cares about climate should understand this. Texas, with no pro-climate policies, has blown passed California in clean energy. In large part because Texas has less red tape and makes it easier to build.
It's insane to me that Martha Stewart went to prison for a single insider trade that netted her $45,000, yet Pelosi has made over a quarter billion doing this her entire career.
My boss's boss is like 42, never married, no kids. Earns $275-300K per year. Goes on a minimum of two international vacations a year w/ his girlfriend. 10+ days, all out.
Eats the best food, stays in top notch accomodations. Excursions, tours, nicest beaches, etc.
Great guy, I'm happy for him.
But what I've realized is that without kids, you end up chasing a lifestyle that has to continually be topped in order for you to be satisfied and find happiness.
What he and others like him don't understand is that when you have children, seeing THEM experience life's most basic things and watching their eyes light up at all the "firsts", brings greater pleasure and joy than any vacation or travel experience ever could.
Seeing THEM try blueberries for the first time is greater than dining at the best 5 star restaurant in Europe.
Seeing THEM learn how to walk is greater than walking the Great Wall of China or strolling along the most picturesque beach.
Watching THEM giggle uncontrollably at "peek-a-boo" tops any A-list comedian act.
Seeing THEIR excitement when building a fort out of cardboard boxes and making a door big enough for daddy is superior to staying at 5-star resorts.
Flying kites with THEM far outweighs excursions like parasailing or helicopter rides.
Seeing THEM perform a recital on stage for the first time is more rewarding than watching a Broadway show or top notch symphony orchestra.
-----------------
When you have children, all of a sudden you realize that life's greatest joys are not in the pursuit of things or pleasure or travel, but rather in the LOVE and bond you share with your very own image bearers.
Seeing the beauty and magnificence and wonder of life all over again for the first time through THEIR eyes and expressions gives you something the world simply cannot offer, nor even come close.
Girl-dad here, my daughters are in their early 20s now.
To all the guys out there who society told being a responsible father was a fate worse than death, and who are now getting a glimpse through Pragmata of what fatherhood might be like:
You were lied to hard, sorry bro, being a father is the most amazing thing on earth. But it's not too late, go find a good woman, marry her, raise a family, provide, be responsible, go all in. Be the protector you were made to be.
You've got this, king.
The amazing thing about California voters is that a significant majority will say privately that the state has become a dramatically worse place to live as Democrats have taken control
And yet they couldn’t care less when someone like Steve Hilton gives obvious, common sense solutions to big problems because he’s a Republican and they’d rather keep voting for Democrats and have everything get worse
