Super excited to join this wonderful team, contribute to the legacy of the paper, help grow the publication and fearlessly tell stories. It’s time to make some “good trouble!”
FYI: This week's print edition of @WashInformer is out and available for public consumption. @MichaPGreen curated a bevy of articles from me, @BlackPressSpeak, @drolarkb and others. Quite the production. To Jah be the glory.
HISTORY: 199 years ago today, Samuel Cornish and John B. Russwurm founded Freedom's Journal. This paper's launch marked the beginning of the Black Press.
Nearly two centuries later, @WashInformer and other Black-owned publications continue that tradition. Happy to do my part.
The First Amendment is a foundational promise to every American: Each of us has the freedom to speak, to report, and to hold those in power accountable without fear of retribution or retaliation.
Today, Donald Trump and his administration are once again trampling on our rights and our freedoms. Journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort were fulfilling their duty to the American people to report and inform, and they have been arrested for it.
Donald Trump continues to consolidate power and show a flagrant disregard for the rule of law. This arrest is another affront to our rights and freedoms and should alarm and enrage us.
@StacyBrownMedia@WashInformer@SamPKCollins@EleanorNorton While I never reply to such things, I feel strongly about defending Sam, the publication & Black Press. For more than 61 years, The Informer has been committed to printing factual stories & holding leaders accountable. Sam has been critical to that effort for more than a decade.
With a small but mighty team, @WashInformer is dedicated to strong, factual storytelling. Our award-winning reporter @SamPKCollins wrote a piece sharing a mother's fight for answers and justice for her son. The "false claim" the delegate is referencing was her quote. More Below
The Informer ran a false claim about my office without attempting to verify it, and hasn’t corrected it despite documentation we provided disproving it.
I support a free press — but journalists have a duty to confirm facts before publication. After 3 days, a correction is long overdue.
@StacyBrownMedia@WashInformer@SamPKCollins@EleanorNorton Precisely! I was made aware of the issue yesterday evening. I requested patience as we worked to address the matter. Sam and I looked @ documentation & made the correction this morning as we also worked to reply to the injustices happening to Black journalists in the nation.
With the arrests of two Black journalists, the clear attack on the First Amendment and independent journalism & the very public challenges expressed by the Black Press, I am highly disappointed this is what Del. @EleanorNorton chose to publicly direct her attention today.
@EleanorNorton I should emphasize we emailed for the first time yesterday, not three days ago. I asked for patience as we worked to rectify the article. Sam made the correction this morning and while it was not reflected fully on the web until this afternoon, the clarification has been made.
I spoke with Del. @EleanorNorton's team yesterday evening, told them I appreciated their attention to the matter and ensured we'd make the correction as soon as possible, once provided documentation. We did that.

The Washington Informer stands with journalists Georgia Fort and Don Lemon, who have been arrested for simply doing their jobs.
Truth telling, holding leaders accountable, and the First Amendment is under attack. We will not stand for it.
We are watching with grave concern the recent arrests of multiple journalists, including independent reporter Georgia Fort of Minneapolis & national correspondent Don Lemon, by federal authorities for covering a protest at a church in St. Paul, Minnesota.

With fire in my soul and the facts on my side, I’ve raised hell about the injustice of denying 700K taxpaying Americans in DC the same rights given to residents of the states for 35 years.
Now, with pride in our accomplishments, gratitude to DC, and confidence in the next generation, I announced I'll retire at the end of this term.
