1 in 10 Americans have diabetes. 1 in 8 Americans have prediabetes.

@Mikeggibbs I’m not negating the importance of school for student #mentalhealth, but another transition will not resolve this issue. Easing up on academics and refocusing on social and emotional learning is needed. We need to decrease screen time & encourage movement and hands-on learning.
& another child with confirmed MIS-C admitted recently to the PICU from my group.
Who wants to try to tell those parents that kids shouldn’t be prioritized for the COVID-19 vaccine because they’re at *such low risk*?
TODAY marks exactly four months until the first scheduled day of school for most students in Ontario. Parents like me want to know what @Sflecce is doing to ensure a smooth and safe return to classrooms.
Hmmm. I think @Sflecce had better reverse that BILLION + he is planning to cut from #onted. Looks like he is going to be forced to drastically reduce class sizes for the fall.
While he could care less about staff, surely he agrees that our children deserve protection. #onpoli
An ICU bed costs ~$4,000/d in today's dollars.
@ongov is burning through $21M/week to care for ~750 #COVID ICU patients.
Minimum wage is $14.25.
This amount could cover 2h of paid vax time for 736,842 essential workers or 184,210 #PaidSickDays at $114/d.
Have a look @fordnation. Pls explain how the CRSB can prevent this. Pls explain why you won't spend $114 of paid sick leave instead of ~ 6K/d it's costing for this ICU patient. Pls explain you care about fiscal responsibility never mind LIVES. Explain.
It’s hard to appreciate what limited medical resources mean until it happens to you or unless of course you work in the system.
I get many aren’t scared of getting sick from COVID but you should be scared of limited healthcare resources.
I asked: "Explain it to me like I was a 5 year old"
And this pretty much explains it. There's no hiding behind the myth of children/schools not possibly driving #Covid19 transmission. It's no longer a data defensible argument #StopKiddingUrself
I have several friends and their families dealing with #COVID right now. (Confirmed exposure was a positive case at school.) We hear the hospital numbers but we don’t hear how miserable it is for those at home. They’re sick and scared. PLEASE #StayHome.
I'm getting tired of turning on Canadian news & hearing experts & leaders completely tip-toe around the question of schools. We're letting @fordnation off the hook if we act like a province-wide #onted school closure isn't an obvious route to averting a catastrophe. #onhealth
We cannot sleepwalk towards triage.
No weekends off for @ongov.
Every resource must be mobilized to protect 18+ essential workers & hotzone residents from sickness and death.
This can't wait till Monday.
@realsarahpolley Here's the pic people need to see. Schools are a major vector and the province did nothing except send kids back into crowded classrooms with masks.

I just heard from the staff rep at another high school in our system that a student who tested positive had no close contacts in class, only on the bus. Public health didn’t inform the teacher. (1/6) #FordfailedOntario#onted#ontpoli#FireLecce
I won’t say life every slowed down in the ICU, but it was manageable for a time. That is now ending as we follow Calgary’s lead and open up surge capacity beds. Hold fast people, and more importantly hold your government accountable. These coming deaths were preventable.
It took:
5 MDs
4 ICU RNs
4 RTs
1 perfusionist &
3 critical care paramedics
3 hrs
To save my ~40 yr old #COVID patient with #ECMO
It would have cost @ongov $114 (8h x min wage) to allow her husband to take a day off work from his factory in known outbreak.
We have lost our way.
