On Friday evening, I posted on FB a pic of me with a challah hot out of the oven. 300 people responded. I love the response -- all the emojis and kind wishes.
Tonight though, I am posting another pic of a challah and a pot of soup and asking you to please, please send a donation to support families in #Gaza who have no home, no warmth, no dryness, no lights, no electricity, no kitchen, no oven, no clean water, no shower, no toilet, who are forced by Israel and its accomplices to survive the cold and wet in flimsy tents, who have been subjected to extremely cruel psychological and physical assault for two years, whose entire society has been nearly destroyed, whose family members, friends and neighbors have been killed and horrifically maimed before their eyes, who . . . need I go on?
I believe it is very difficult psychologically and emotionally to allow into our consciousnesses what we know is going on in Gaza. We defend ourselves psychologically by keeping it way in the back of our awareness. We screen it out. We don't relate to it. So, 300 respond to my photo of a loaf of challah out of the oven on Friday night, but when I post about a family needing a tent, sometimes no one at all responds. When I ask to help a young widow with three children who needs warm clothes, usually there is silence. Besides our need to defend our psyches from such excruciating awareness, what other explanation is there?
Right here, right now, let's change that. Do what you can to make a difference. Please send what you can to help any of these families buy food, get a tent, get blankets and warm clothes, buy medicine and more.
Send by e-transfer or PayPal to [email protected]. I will know you sent it and will thank you. Your support will make a direct, tangible difference to a family suffering beyond our comprehension.
Or donate to our project at https://t.co/dy3N99L9Yh
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, comment or DM me.
If you want to be in direct contact with any of the ~30 families we're supporting, please tell me and I'll add you to a WhatsApp group with others of us who are doing that. You can make a direct, specific, person-to-person, heart-to-heart difference.
Let's end turning away right here and right now. If you have read this far, please do something to help. Please do it now. Any donation in any amount will matter. (Of course, larger ones matter more.)
Please show me that we can do better than simply putting smiley faces and thumbs up on photos of challah. We can provide some real food for real people who are desperately in need largely because of our governments' complicity.
And, to all those who have helped and continue to help -- thank you.

Start making noise. This is not a thing we want. Look at what happened in the UK, US, Australia. We will not go down this path.
This does not protect children. This monitors adults like children. It's dystopian, authoritarian and dictatorial.
We will not be controlled.
2000s misogyny was so bad and itโs like ppl have erased it from history. news anchors would talk about the countdown to lindsey lohan turning 18. THE MAN SHOW. i hope they serve beer in hell. pick up artists. constant rape jokes.
weโre not hating taylor swift enough for dating a racist who enjoys torture porn, dating a man who said it was an honor to play for trump, befriending zionists and maga, using AI to promote her new album, putting someoneโs mental health on blast, and being a billionaire
some GSF participants from Malaysia can learn a thing or two from Greta.
our local headlines are just about the 23 malaysians from GSF, not a word about Gaza.
instead you get a โheroesโ welcome as if you stopped the war.
bc malaysians are misogynistic and ableist and someone like greta would definitely speak up against the monarchy and our racist apartheid laws and the displacement and abuse of our indigenous people. that kind of system is exactly what sheโs up against rn we just donโt have bombs
I am reminded of something said by my Malaysian Studies prof at uni - that Malay culture is no longer practiced.
A lot of Malays have lost their cultural identity, appropriating Arabic culture instead.
Someone should start a movement to preserve it, lest it be lost forever.
