🏠 NEW: Stronger protections for leaseholders 🏠
I’ve been working with residents across the constituency who have raised concerns about leasehold fees, charges and the lack of transparency around property management.
This Labour Government is taking action to give homeowners a fairer deal, including:
🔑 New powers to cap unreasonable permission and administrative fees
⚖️ Independent regulation of property agents
📋 Licensing and qualification requirements for property agents
🏡 Greater protections for leaseholders and homeowners on privately managed estates
These changes could benefit more than 5 million existing leaseholders and future homeowners.
I’ll continue to work with residents and keep pushing for a fairer deal for homeowners across our constituency.
Why I’ve made maternity care a priority for our NHS.
And why I won’t stop until every family gets the care they deserve.
Because women and babies must never be treated as second class patients.

I want to be honest about how we’ve got to a place where British billpayers are paying some of the highest energy costs in Europe.
Over the past 40 years, we’ve given up control of our necessities, outsourced our essentials and privatised the basics. Water, transport, housing. And of course, energy.
Now the public are paying the price. We haven’t invested in the infrastructure we need. Conflict overseas has pushed up energy costs and it’s hurting our businesses and families.
That’s why we need to take back greater control of our energy system.
This week, I announced Great British Grid, which will speed up connections and push down bills.
We’re also giving mayors, local leaders and communities a stronger role. With funding for People’s Power projects, communities will be able to build solar panels on libraries and town halls, hydro schemes in rivers or publicly owned windfarms on local land.
But it’s not just energy we need stronger public control over. It’s also water, housing, transport and care.
So we’re repealing the ban on public ownership of water companies. We’re building more council homes than this country has seen since the end of World War Two.
We’re reforming the leasehold system so families aren’t squeezed for every penny. And we’re opening up home ownership for first time buyers who can’t rely on the bank of mum and dad.
This week I also announced my determination to introduce a National Care Service, to put people above profit and to give pensioners peace of mind.
Together, we’ll rewire the country from top to bottom so that it works for all people in all places.
That is the only way to put Britain back on the right path. It’s the only way to put power back in people’s hands. And it’s the only way we will bring hope again.
‼️Government Taking Action - Ashfield District Council should be investigated.
The people of Hucknall deserve so much better.
Following the serious concerns I raised about the leadership and governance of Ashfield District Council, I asked the Government to intervene. The Government has now confirmed that it is keeping a close eye on the council and has already been in direct contact with it.
This is an important first step, but it cannot end there. Residents deserve a council that operates with integrity, transparency and accountability—and that puts their communities ahead of political self-interest. I want a full investigation and expect Ashfield District Council to fully comply to my request regarding the planning decisions they have made.
I will continue pressing the Government to ensure these concerns are properly examined and that the people of Hucknall finally receive the honest, responsible leadership they deserve.
I will not let this matter be brushed aside.

🚨 STOP THE WORKS AT WHYBURN FARM 🦡
I am deeply concerned that archaeological trial trenching is reportedly taking place just 5-10 metres from known badger setts.
Hucknall Wildlife Group collected data from the sett in March, which showed it was very active.
Badgers and their setts are legally protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, including from damage and reckless disturbance.
The works must STOP immediately while this is properly investigated.
I have urgently written to Bloor Homes, Peveril Homes and the University of Leicester demanding the works stop and that they provide answers on ecological assessments, safeguards and any licences in place.
Our wildlife must be protected. I will not let this go.

A really important day for families, women and carers 📢
I’m thrilled to see Sure Start make a come back, where we will reach up to 1000 hubs over the next two years.
The return of Sure Start is personal to me. I helped set up Sure Start services when they were first introduced, and I know just how much of a difference they can make to families. Every child deserves the best possible start in life - and where you are born should not determine your future.
I am also pleased with the announcement of new National Maternity Standards, including improved baby loss and post-pregnancy care. This will come alongside a Maternity Commissioner which I am proud to have helped secure.
Also announced - £50m investment in specialist support for victims of domestic abuse, and a new national pension scheme for workers in the care sector. With thousands of carers across Sherwood Forest, this announcement matters locally.
I’m proud to be working closely with the Health Secretary, and I’ll keep making sure the voices of women and families are heard in health and beyond. @DHSCgovuk
Today, I’ve written to Ashfield District Council following the Government’s announcement of £222,000 for the district through the Good Food Neighbourhoods Programme, calling for Hucknall to receive its fair share of this funding.
This is a great opportunity to support local projects that improve access to healthy, affordable food - and I’ll be pushing to make sure Hucknall benefits 👇
Labour will change the education system and the welfare system.
We will invest in our young people and rebuild comprehensive education by putting academic and technical learning on a level footing.
“A union of nations that gave trade unions and the co-operative movement to the world.”
Our first Labour and Co-operative Prime Minister @andyburnham on the Britain he loves: a country of solidarity, not separation.
I recently wrote to Bloor Homes and Peveril Homes and the University of Leicester after I was made aware by constituents that archaeological works were due to take place at Whyburn Farm in Hucknall.
The developers have now responded, confirming that information was sent only to Hucknall councillors and some residents - my office was not informed, despite my previous correspondence with Bloor Homes and Peveril Homes regarding my objections and the significant concerns raised by local residents.
I have made it clear that this is not good enough.
The developers say the archaeological investigations are limited in nature and are expected to conclude within the coming weeks, with the findings then being submitted to the County Council’s archaeological team.
To be clear, these investigations do not mean the development has been approved.
I have also written to the University of Leicester to express my disappointment that they are supporting a mass speculative housing development that is not in the Local Plan, and have asked them to distance themselves Bloor Homes, Peveril Homes and Whyburn Farm.
I have again asked to be kept informed of all future activity and communications relating to the site, and I will be sharing the developers' response with the Minister.
My position remains unchanged: I oppose the proposed development at Whyburn Farm and Misk Hills and will continue to represent the concerns of Hucknall residents.

This week marks the first ever #MatresceneMatters Awareness Week 📢
ℹ️ Matrescence is the profound physical, emotional, and psychological transition of becoming a mother.
Matrescence Week takes place during one of the UK’s busiest weeks for births and the 40th week of the year, reminding us that while thousands of babies arrive, every mother is also going through a profound transformation.
