A thread organizing the work I do and why I do it...
These 3 "D's" that make up my clinical and research efforts:
✅Diabetes
✅Digital Health
✅Disparities

🥳 Huge congratulations to Dr. Engh (@EENGH_RN) for passing her dissertation defense focused on the lifecycle of rare disease organizations! It was an honor to serve on your committee alongside @KathySward (chair) @lauri_linder Barb Wilson + Marshall Summar.
Make sure to catch NPR’s @scifri. @michlitch from @uofunursing joined the national radio broadcast to talk about her research through Deaf Diabetes Can Together, a program striving to create solutions for health equity in the Deaf community. https://t.co/fGQyofs3YJ
Thank you @scifri for having me and Tamiko on your show! We are excited to be delivering our intervention, Deaf Diabetes Can Together, directly in ASL.
If you are Deaf, have diabetes, and want to learn more about our program, please reach out to [email protected]
Deaf patients often don’t receive interpreters in healthcare settings.
@MichLitch, from @UUtah, and Tamiko Rafeek join us to talk about why there’s a lack of interpreters in the US and how healthcare systems can better care for patients.

It's great to hear @MichLitch@uofunursing@UofUHealth and Tamiko Rafeek explaining their important work improving health care for the Deaf community with @iraflatow@scifri! https://t.co/atpXooSc8Y Don't miss Language of Care, a short film on the research https://t.co/nr2JnnVEUT
The Language of Care - a film that tells the story of how Deaf Diabetes Can Together is creating solutions for health equity in the Deaf community. Nearly 40 million people in the us live with diabetes, majority of Deaf people with diabetes do not have equal access to health care
@chrissyfarr Love the list! I will add:
-Why do health systems not provide sign language interpreters 100% of the time when the American Disabilities Act is in place?
Thank you to Ira, Diana, and D. from NPR @scifri for making the interview such great experience for Tamiko and I! The chat and Q&A were buzzing. The show will be condensed for radio and will air on NPR Science Friday in the upcoming weeks.

A new PhD started today. She asked for general advice for the first few months. This was my advice:
1. Don’t work evenings or weekends
2. Don’t aim to prove yourself (to me), I’m already convinced of your capacities
3. Go for a walk when things dazzle you (1/3)
We hosted our dedicated @UofUHealth community @redbuttegarden for screenings of Academy Award-winning film CODA and documentary The Language of Care. @MichLitch discussed efforts to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps to improve care for deaf patients.

I'm collecting examples of patient-, survivor-, and caregiver-led companies and organizations as a tip list for investors, leaders, and policymakers who want to level up their health care game: https://t.co/JN9kzfw0xJ
@MichLitch Deaf citizen scientists pointed out regional ASL differences, plus a need for multiple ways to sign insulin delivery, for example, so @MichLitch and team created an ASL glossary of diabetes terms.
This is #RebelHealth - Solvers working with Champions, patient-led innovation.
If you're deaf or hard of hearing and use a stethoscope, please take this survey by the top guru of amplified stethscopes, Dr. Sam Atcherson, PhD. Would go a long way to improving their use. Pic from @amphltweets website.
