We are excited to share this new preprint from our amazing postdoc, @luisci22! Luis discovered that liver cancer cells with overactive beta-catenin switch their mitochondrial fuel usage from glucose to fatty acid oxidation—an unexpected rewiring that challenges conventional Warburg metabolism.

[Luis Cedeño-Rosario, PhD @luisci22]

Excited to share my new preprint from the @RutterLab! What sets a cell’s metabolic state? Using MPC1 as a readout in a CRISPR screen, we found that β-catenin regulates metabolic state in liver cancer cells, driving a switch from carbohydrate to fat oxidation. 🧵

Congratulations to our tremendous graduating fellow, @N8Krah, on his newest preprint! Nate will be starting his lab here at @UofUHematology @huntsmancancer. We're excited to continue supporting his research!

[Nate Krah @N8Krah]

🧵 the Krah Lab opens this month and our first preprint is live on bioRxiv!

This was a highly collaborative project with the Chaix Lab, @Dorrance_Lab and @RutterLab asking: does the modality of weight loss change how blood and inflammatory cells are made?

Congrats to our amazing postdoc, @luisci22, on being awarded the K99/R00 from the NIGMS!

[Luis Cedeño-Rosario, PhD @luisci22]

It is NOA day! 🎉 I feel blessed and excited to receive the K99/R00 from NIH NIGMS! Thanks to everyone who has supported me and continues to support me on this journey. I appreciate you all! 🙏🏾✨🧪@UofUBiochem @RutterLab

We are thrilled to share this new preprint from our awesome grad student, @Tarun579_599! Tarun discovered that mitochondrial membrane proteins have evolved to incorporate threonines in place of highly hydrophobic residues to assist in their transit from the cytosol to mitochondrial membranes.

[Tarun Yadav @Tarun579_599]

Excited to share our new preprint on how mitochondrial membrane proteins incorporate threonine to balance targeting through the aqueous cytosol with membrane stability. https://t.co/UKRReHVRRQ

Congratulations to our amazing summer undergraduate students on a successful presentation at the @UUtah Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS)! ✨ We are very proud of them and can't wait to see them continue to shine on their scientific journey! 🔬🧬🧪 @UofUBiochem @hhmi_science

The field has sought this factor since the 90s. Detective Cunningham on the case, see the tweetorial!

[Rutter Lab @RutterLab]

It's a two-fer Tuesday. We are ecstatic to share this preprint from our amazing postdoc @CNFXC. Corey solved a long-standing question in the field of transport biology, identifying SLC16A6 as a melanosomal tyrosine transporter.

[Corey N Cunningham @CNFXC]

Excited to share our new preprint from @RutterLab, identifying a melanosomal tyrosine transporter!

This is a bit of a tale of two stories: we’re deeply intrigued by the biology and we think that this method is incredibly useful. It fills a gap in the field to ask gene-centric regulatory questions. We hope you enjoy the preprint, reach out with feedback!

[Rutter Lab @RutterLab]

We are excited to share a new preprint from our amazing postdoc @alexjbott ! Alex designed a new CRISPR screening platform called TRoUT-FISH to identify transcriptional activators and repressors of various genes of interest! Check out his tweetorial below!

[Alex Bott @alexjbott]

Happy to share our new preprint from @RutterLab. To understand how genes are controlled, we developed a method we call TRoUT-FISH, using CRISPR + RNA-FISH. We found that glycolytic gene expression is fine-tuned by lineage specifying transcription factors.

Congrats to our superstar postdoc, @narbonaperez, for being awarded a UMDF Postdoctoral Fellow Grant! #Congrats #MitoMonday #UMDF 🎉🎉🎉

Many thanks to @UMDF for supporting Alvaro's promising work!

[United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation @UMDF]

UMDF and @AusMito congratulate all of the 2026 Research Grant Award recipients! Read our full announcement to learn more about how this research will help advance the field of #mitochondrialdisease research.

Two for Thursday: We want to highlight another fantastic collaboration, this time with William Oldham's lab at Brown University and our @N8Krah, demonstrating that MCT4 is a druggable target in pulmonary fibrosis. Check it out here: https://t.co/W5a3hERl30 @UofUHematology @huntsmancancer

Congrats to everyone involved!

[Rutter Lab @RutterLab]

We want to highlight a new collaborative project, led by @yliu_UofU lab with help from our superstar @UofUHematology Fellow @N8Krah, on the implementation of a novel CRISPR-Cas system to selectively kill cancer cells! #RisingStar #CRISPR

[Nate Krah @N8Krah]

🧬 New paper out in @Nature! We used CRISPR to selectively kill cancer cells based on a single-letter mutation in their RNA. The story I want to highlight: KRAS — one of the most notorious drivers of human cancer. A short thread on what we found 🧵

[Rutter Lab @RutterLab]

Exciting news from the @RutterLab! Our amazing lab techs got accepted into graduate school! "Congrats to Christina (@ChristinaVolz22) and Zihan (@ZMonshad). We're excited to watch them continue their science journey!" -JR @UofUBiochem @UUHSResearch @hhmi_science 🧪🎉

[Rutter Lab @RutterLab]

We are excited to announce that our recent collaborative paper, led by the superstar duo Rebekah Nicholson and Luis Cedeño-Rosario, which identified how ceramides alter mitochondrial structure and function after acute kidney injury was selected to participate in #STATMadness!
