Si voterà tra due giorni. Molti pensano che l’Italia abbia bisogno di un partito pacifista per porre fine alla guerra in Ucraina, ma è un grave errore di valutazione. L’Italia ha bisogno di un partito pacifista perché il futuro che ci attende è un futuro di guerre. Il problema non è soltanto la guerra in Ucraina. I problemi sono due. Il primo è che i punti di contrasto tra Russia-Cina e Stati Uniti-Europa sono molto numerosi. Tra questi: Ucraina, Georgia, Finlandia, Artico, Baltico, Mar Nero, Moldavia, Mar Cinese Meridionale. L’ingresso della Finlandia nella Nato ha creato un nuovo punto di scontro con la Russia che ha reso l’Europa molto più instabile e insicura. Tutte le condizioni necessarie per lo scoppio della Terza guerra mondiale in Europa sono poste. Il secondo problema è collegato al primo: è il processo di sostituzione della cultura della pace con la cultura della guerra per favorire la partecipazione dell’Italia alle guerre del futuro attraverso la costruzione del consenso popolare. Il ministro Crosetto mi attacca tanto perché ho capito molto bene quale sia la direzione in cui l’Italia si sta dirigendo anche sotto la sua guida improvvida. L’Italia sta riorganizzando il suo sistema politico per renderlo funzionale a un futuro di guerre modificando persino le leggi sull’esportazione delle armi. Questa riorganizzazione del sistema politico non può avvenire senza il coinvolgimento della società civile: case editrici, università, social, scuole, radio, televisioni. Io sono semplicemente un esponente del movimento pacifista italiano; vengo da lontano, appartengo a una tradizione nobile e antica. Uso gli strumenti che la cultura mette a mia disposizione per combattere la mia battaglia. Ho cercato di spiegarlo nella mia lezione a Firenze.
Votate per i partiti pacifisti. Non è soltanto questione di guerra in Ucraina. Avanzi l'Italia, avanzi la pace. Risorga il movimento pacifista.

ANALYSIS WHICH DISINFORMATION IS WORST, RUSSIAN OR WESTERN? FEB 23 2024
An old saying is that truth is the first victim in war. The truth is of course that both sides use disinformation to strengthen their own side, in this war, as in all wars. The question is, who is most trustworthy?

For many in the West the answer seems obvious, Russia is seen as an authoritarian state with unfree media, so the West must be best. But the answer isn't that simple. You must look on content, not only the author of the information, to get the real picture.

We can look at this in several layers. I divide it into official statements (MoD), Main Stream Media, Military bloggers and cheer leading supporters.

At the official level Russian MoD is better than Ukrainian MoD. Both the Russians and Ukrainians avoid talking about anything detrimental to their side but the Ukrainian numbers about Russian losses are unbelievable high.

For example, Russian tank losses are nearly 7000 according to Ukrainian MoD. Since Russia had about 3500 tanks in service when the war started and probably have produced or activated 2-3000 more, the entire Russian tank fleet has been destroyed. But somehow RuAF still have 2-3000 tanks in service. You don't need to be Einstein to see the discrepancy.

Then we have MSM. I thought earlier that western media would give a more diverse picture of the conflict. To my great disappointment I was proven wrong. During the entire conflict in Ukraine western MSM has been a monotonous copy of Ukrainian propaganda.

On the other hand Russian MSM, especially for international consumption has been a positive surprise. If I was forced to choose between any major western news channel (CNN, DW, BBC etc) or Russian Sputnik or RT, I would probably choose the Russian sources.

To get comprehensive information you should of course never use only one sides information, and I don't say that Russian media is good and western is bad, only that Russian media is less biased than Western media.

There are some good western news sources, at least recently. New York Times has become a favourite of mine, even though many proukrainians call it New Vatnik Times.

When it comes to military bloggers/think tanks most of the (pro)Ukrainians are very partial and avoid reporting negative news and use a very demeaning language about Russians and prorussians. It's often hard to make a difference between them and Gung Ho propagandists.

There are a few as DeepStateUA and the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) that report rather neutral about developments on the frontline. But in general there are often very limited criticism against their own side,

Russian military bloggers report to a higher degree neutral about frontline developments. They are also often much more critical to how their own side conduct the war. Rybar is a very good Russian source among the military bloggers.

In general (pro)ukrainian military bloggers criticise western politicians, media and public opinion for being too soft on Russia and demands more support for Ukraine, while Russian military bloggers criticise their own side for not realising how serious the war is and how it is conducted.

When you look on the military bloggers from outside, you get the impression that the Russian side is more free than the their western counterparts. This isn't the entire truth. You're allowed to criticise things in the West, but only those with the Right opinions are given space in the public debate.

Lastly we have the enthusiastic propagandist on both sides. There aren't much to say about these. They are as one-sided as propagandists always are.

For me, it was a surprise that different Russian sources often was more objective than their western counterparts. Then it feels even more strange that western governments are censoring many Russian news sources, to combat desinformation, when it would be better to censor many western news outlets that are spreading much more desinformation and fake news.

On this day, June 20, 1967, boxing legend Muhammad Ali was convicted for refusing the draft for the Vietnam War in Houston, Texas. Ali had been a vocal opponent of the US war, expressing his views by saying, "Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs?"

In an attempt to suppress the growing resistance to the war, Ali was given the maximum sentence of five years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine. However, these efforts proved unsuccessful as the anti-war movement continued to gain momentum. Despite the Nation of Islam starting to distance themselves from Ali, demonstrations in support of him took place worldwide, from Egypt to Guyana, London to Ghana. Four years later, the Supreme Court overturned his conviction.

Ali remained steadfast in his convictions, stating, "I wasn't trying to be a leader. I just wanted to be free. And I made a stand all people, not just Black people, should have thought about making because it wasn't just Black people being drafted. The government had a system where the rich man's son went to college, and the poor man's son went to war. Then, after the rich man's son got out of college, he did other things to keep him out of the Army until he was too old to be drafted."
