My interview with @shiferaw_lakew of @ebczena on Red Sea dynamics, the anti-Ethiopia grouping, the Nile, Isaias' Eritrea, etc. Hate it, like it, that's how I see things.

Talk about hypocrisy! These four "leaders" claim that only littoral states have any say over the Red Sea but on Nile use want downstream nations to have equal control. Ethiopia contributes most water to Nile and had Red Sea ports for millennia! Get real!

Ethiopia 🇪🇹 Reaches $23.6M in African Trade and Launches New Online Portal
#EBR_News Sep 25, 2026
Ethiopia's export volume under the African Continental Free Trade Area framework reached $23.6 million as of August 2026, less than a year after the country began exporting goods under the agreement in October 2025, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Kassahun Gofe (PhD) said at a high-level stakeholder consultation forum held in Addis Ababa.
The forum, held September 15–16 at Skylight Hotel, validated a new Step-by-Step Guide for Trading in Goods under AfCFTA and a companion digital Trade Information Portal.
According to Kassahun, Ethiopia ratified the AfCFTA agreement in 2019 and took practical steps toward implementation by issuing tariff concessions through Regulation No. 574/2025, which paved the way for the country to officially begin exporting under the framework in October 2025. He said the $23.6 million figure demonstrates Ethiopia's growing integration into continental trade.
Kassahun said the lack of product diversification, limited private sector capacity, and a shortage of clear, accessible trade information remain major bottlenecks preventing Ethiopian businesses from fully utilising AfCFTA opportunities.
The forum was jointly organised by the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration and the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and Expertise France, with financial support from the governments of Canada and Japan, according to a statement from the Economic Commission for Africa.
Jean-Baptiste Petigny, Country Director of Expertise France in Ethiopia, said the tools are intended to help shift the country "from awareness to action, and from capacity building to actual trade."
ECCSA Secretary General Kenenisa Debela said the guide and portal must function as practical tools that help a trader move from understanding the export process to completing an actual transaction, rather than serving merely as reference material.
According to the ECA, participants at the workshop, including government officials, private sector representatives, and development partners, reviewed the draft guide in plenary and thematic sessions, focusing on accuracy, clarity, and accessibility, with particular attention to the needs of MSMEs and women- and youth-led businesses.
The guide will be revised and translated into Amharic and other Ethiopian languages, while the portal will be populated with content ahead of its official launch. Both tools will subsequently be used to train businesses at all levels in partnership with the Ministry, chambers, and sectoral associations across the country.
AfCFTA integrates the markets of more than 50 African countries, connecting a combined GDP of over $3.4 trillion and a population of 1.4 billion people, and is projected to boost intra-African trade by 45 percent by 2045, according to the ECA.

Kiplimo clocked 56:42 at the Barcelona Half Marathon but it wasn't ratified as the lead car was too close to the Ugandan 🏃
