Today in day in 1974, Dublin was buzzing with people going about their business. Families out shopping, workers hurrying home for dinner, school kids messing with their friends. Suddenly at 5:30pm, three car bombs exploded tearing the peace of the city apart.

One on Parnell Street, others on Talbot Street and South Leinster Street. All busy thoroughfares with heavy pedestrian traffic near railway stations. The lives of hundreds of innocent people are shattered. The locations and timing were chosen for maximum carnage. Most of the victims were young women, although the dead ranged from 80 years old to 5 months old.

90 minutes later another massive 150-pound car bomb shatters Monaghan town centre. Everywhere the slaughter is unimaginable. In all 34 people, including a full-term unborn baby, were murdered in the single most deadly massacre of The Troubles. Hundreds more were seriously injured, blinded and maimed. Countless lives changed forever.

No warnings were given. No murderers were ever brought to justice. Evidence strongly suggests British intelligence colluded with the Loyalist paramilitaries who planted the bombs. It is the responsibility of everyone, North and South of the border, to ensure this evil and countless atrocities like it upon this island are never tolerated again. May all victims of terrorism rest in peace.
