Sadly, I know it was me that popularized whaling with the small creator community in 2K19. Huge creators were doing it before, and one or two Chinese millionaires were hobby whaling; but small creators and hopeful streamers weren’t spending like me. It was a hobby for me, and a way to grow quickly as a creator.

Buying Signature Limited MJ for 12+ million; pulling 2 Signature Limited LeBrons and wagering one against @CashNasty; then getting Signature Limited Kobe and collabing with @Troydan; then sharing all these extremely rare cards with big creators for exposure and fun. Finally, giving away tons of high gem cards on stream.

This became the blueprint for a new generation of creators, and even for regular non creators that just wanted social media exposure.

Today, 2K’s insatiable greed combined with this whaling model that I regretfully normalized, has ruined the MyTeam mode.

I’m posting this to announce that I have officially retired from whaling and am embarrassed of the part I played in popularizing it in the community. And I’m asking all the whales out there to please do the same 🙏🏼. The only hope we have to save this mode is to stop whaling. We need to force 2K back to putting out a competent product that rewards playing, not paying. We already paid for the game.

Don’t open Wild Gem packs tomorrow! Stop spending on this game until odds are increased, rewards are buffed, and 2K starts listening to us, the consumers who pay their salaries!
