The Battle of Jutland was decisive. Never again did the German High Seas fleet sortie in strength to take on the Grand Fleet supported by the battle cruiser squadron.
On this day in naval history, 1916: The Final Stages of the Battle of Jutland.
After the main battle ended, Admiral Jellicoe sought to avoid a risky night engagement and steered south, placing cruisers and destroyers behind the Grand Fleet to screen against a German escape. Admiral Scheer instead crossed behind the British fleet and headed for Horns Reef. Throughout the night, British light forces repeatedly encountered German ships, but many sightings were not reported, radio messages were missed or jammed, and Jellicoe remained unaware that the German battle fleet was slipping past his rear. Even when some British battleships observed German vessels at close range, their commanders chose not to open fire or report the contacts.
The night fighting was chaotic and violent. British destroyers launched a series of torpedo attacks at close range, sinking the light cruiser SMS Rostock and the battleship SMS Pommern, while suffering heavy losses themselves. Several collisions occurred in the darkness, including SMS Nassau ramming HMS Spitfire and the German cruiser SMS Elbingbeing accidentally struck by the battleship SMS Posen. The armored cruiser HMS Black Prince blundered into the German battle line and was destroyed with all hands.
Despite British successes, including the destruction of several German ships and the scuttling of the mortally damaged battlecruiser SMS Lützow, the High Seas Fleet escaped. The Germans were aided by failures in British communications and intelligence: crucial intercepted radio messages revealing Scheer’s position were never passed to Jellicoe. By the time accurate information reached him at dawn on 1 June, the German fleet was already too far away to intercept. The night action therefore allowed Scheer to bring most of his fleet safely home, ending the Battle of Jutland without a decisive British victory.

Nicola Sturgeon claims she was in no way aware of her ex-husband’s misdeeds. Yet you might wonder why she did not in anyway query his purchase of a motorhome having a value approximating to her ex-husband’s annual salary. #sturgeon. #murrell. #SNP.
What Spurs have to do to improve, is to stop buying 2nd rate players in the hope that they will become first rate players, but in fact they become 3rd rate playing for Spurs. Spurs need to buy 1st rate players and pay the going rate. #spurs. #enic. #premierleague. #dezerbi.
Roberto De Zerbi: "From tonight we need to build the new team. We don't need to change too many players. We have 10/11/12 players who are good enough to stay as players and people. (contd)
Starmer says he will campaign for Burnham in Makerfield. Since Starmer’s presence will probably cost Burnham votes and possibly the loss of the constituency, you can understand why Starmer is generously offering to campaign for Burnham.
I BROUGHT MY LATE GRANDMOTHER’S OLD NECKLACE TO A PAWN SHOP — WHEN THE DEALER SAW IT, HE TURNED PALE AND SAID, "WE’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU FOR 20 YEARS."
Post-divorce, I was left with just a cracked phone, two trash bags of clothes, and my grandmother’s precious necklace.
After suffering a miscarriage, my husband left me for a younger partner.
Weeks blurred by with nothing but diner shifts and persistence keeping me afloat.
Then, a FINAL WARNING notice, stamped with red, appeared from my landlord.
Out of options, I opened the shoebox hiding my grandmother’s necklace—her final gift, kept safe for over twenty years.
Weighty and warm, the necklace’s beauty no longer fit the span of my life.
"Sorry, Nana," was all I could say. "Just one more month."
I sobbed into the early hours, mourning my decision.
The next morning found me walking into a pawn shop in the heart of the city.
"Can I help you, ma’am?" the older gentleman at the counter asked.
"I need to sell this," I replied, placing the necklace carefully down.
He paused, hands suspended. Color drained from his cheeks.
"Where did you get this?" his voice lowered.
"My grandmother’s. I just need money for rent," I answered.
He requested her name.
"Merinda L.," I said, puzzled. "Why?"
The man flinched, looking stunned.
"Miss... please, have a seat."
A chill ran through me.
"Is it not real?"
"No. It’s real," he breathed out.
He snatched the cordless phone, pressing a number.
"I have it. The necklace. She’s here," he declared.
I backed away, wary.
"Who is that?"
He covered the line, looking panicked.
"Miss... the master has been waiting for you for twenty years."
Before further questions, the rear lock clicked and a door swung wide.
The next sight left me gasping. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Rachel Reeves was taking the credit when interest rates were on the way down ? I wonder if she will take the credit if they start going back up ? Can’t have it both ways. #Reeves. #interestrates#Starmer. #Iran.
Rachel Reeves can drum funds at ‘the drop of a hat’ to subsidise energy costs, but she cannot find money to increase defence spending. #reeves. #defence. #energy#Redwood.
The Chancellor cannot afford much to offset the impact of high oil and gas prices given the high levels of state borrowing and the high interest rates the government already faces. Help has to be targeted on need and offset by other spending cuts.
In 1945, Japan unconditionally surrendered. This was after most of its cities had been obliterated by regular bombing, two atomic bombs, and the Russian invasion of Japanese territories. The Americans and Israeli have still a long to go before this state is achieved in Iran.
Will be interesting to watch JD Vance and others who've claimed that Ukraine needs to give in on territory because all wars end in negotiations, rushing to embrace Trump's demand for UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!
I think it will take at least two more by-elections, particularly in constituencies where there are NOT large Muslim communities, to try to establish whether Greens can do well without sectarian support.
#Muslim#Green. #Election2026
Turnout was same as general election (actually a tad down — 47.6% on Thursday v 48% in 2024).
Post-election polling/focus groups show, though Gaza was a factor for Muslims, liking the Green candidate and worries about the cost of living were more important i.e. Muslims often voted Green for largely same reasons as non-Muslims.
Maybe King Charles would like the matter dealt with promptly as he is fearful that the anti-monarchists might unseat him if the matter is allowed to drag on ?
The other allegedly guilty persons, do not have monarchist brothers who sit on thrones and wish, like Charles I, avoid being beheaded.

Anyone else feeling the current wall to wall coverage of this Andrew feeding frenzy, is beginning to smack of the crowds that used to attend the guillotine to watch the heads roll. He is done, finished, deserves what's coming, but a little humanity wouldn't go amiss. What about the others that got involved with Epstein... when do they face the music!
Is it true that Sir kier Starmer over ruled civil servants to authorise a £250,000 payoff to Sir Chris wormald , the sacked cabinet Secretary , who was appointed by Starmer only a year ago?
This is tax payers money - and it is a complete disgrace and abuse of power.
No doubt Sir Keir will find someone else to take the blame for this departure and then sack them- but what shocking incompetence from Starmer.
It seems Starmer’s on a roll. To take the public’s attention off one shambles, he simply invents another.
Seems obvious Wormald was sacked by Starmer with a gold plated pay off at taxpayers expense, which in some way benefited Starmer. Maybe replacement agrees to toe the Starmer line ? Maybe the pay off was the price for signing an NDA.
Labour manifesto stated that they would control/limit the numbers of immigrants coming in to the UK. Starmer should apologise for breaking his manifesto promise.
#Starmer. #immigration#manifesto.
Can’t believe Sir Jim Radcliffe has apologised!!!!
What ?
For having an opinion?
An opinion that millions have.
Disappointed at what I can only see as a cowardly response to our Commie PM.

PM tells Sir Jim Ratcliffe to apologise for saying UK 'colonised by immigrants'
Sir Keir Starmer has labelled comments about immigration made by billionaire Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe as "offensive and wrong".
But Sir Keir, Sir Jim's totally correct.... do you agree....🤔
