A routine patrol turned into a multi-agency emergency response in West Texas — all because of a beep. ☢️
A trooper's radiation detector went off near Midland, leading crews to dig up something that had been sitting a few inches underground since 1967. No one knows how it got there or who it belongs to.
The good news: officials say the public was never at risk.
Would that discovery freak you out, or are you just relieved it was handled fast?

In 1963, a Texas Highway Department crew was core drilling near Georgetown to test the bedrock for a new Interstate 35 bridge. About 26 feet down, the drill bit dropped straight through into open air.
They had punched into the roof of a cavern nobody knew existed. The crew lowered a man down the borehole on a cable to see what was under the future highway. What he found was a limestone cave system that had been sealed off from the surface for thousands of years, filled with flowstone, soda straw formations, and still pools.
The bones were the real shock. The cave held remains of Ice Age animals that had fallen into it through openings that later closed, including mammoth, mastodon, glyptodont, dire wolf, and saber toothed cat, some of them dated to roughly 45,000 years ago. It opened to the public in 1966 as Inner Space Cavern. Millions of people have driven over it on I-35 without ever knowing it was there.
A highway test drill found a 45,000 year old cave. Have you been down in Inner Space?
The drink was truly awful IMO; however, Lipton Brisk Iced Tea commercial featuring Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin, and George Steinbrenner, with the voice of Phil Rizzuto was one of the best commercials while I was growing
Don’t do this very often, think the last time was for Ray Wilkins but some people transcend the game & deserve a special mention. Like Ray, Kevin Keegan may not have represented your club but he was a very special player & a great guy. A real legend of the game #RIPKevinKeegan X
John Strong fighting through this overwrought monologue he no doubt spent hours trying to craft while Bruce Buffer screams over him is honestly the only way a US World Cup final could start.

I was today years old when I learned that red and yellow cards in football exist entirely because of Argentina vs. England beef. 😭
In 1966, a German referee (who spoke zero Spanish) sent off Argentina's captain, Antonio Rattín (who spoke zero German). Rattín had no idea what was happening, refused to leave, stalling the match for 9 minutes.
To stop the linguistic chaos, FIFA literally copied traffic lights and Introduced Yellow and Red cards.
Today, they face off in the semi-finals. Prepare for pure cinema. 🍿
