Archaeologist/academic who specialises in Indigenous Australian archaeology, heritage and history, and digital heritage. A/Prof. @ University of New England
Great to see some leaps forward in the space of Indigenous science and knowledge, and protections for Indigenous cultural and intellectual property rights

New research in @PLOSONE: basically all the efficiencies gained by transferring scientific research outputs to the internet were converted to shareholder value for large publishing corporations. https://t.co/tXnaE7ycwD
#AcademicTwitter: I used to be a horrible scientific writer. I was paralyzed by writing anxiety & it took me FOREVER to write papers. Last year I published 14 scientific articles (8 first, 2 second, 2 senior-author) & 2 book chapters.
A thread⬇️on how I became more productive:
We teamed up with @Thepastfromabo1 in celebration of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori NZAA to bring to you a map of Aotearoa New Zealand coastline displaying approximately 8000 archaeological sites with Māori place names from ArchSite. Kia Kaha te Reo Māori! #nzarchaeology
@MelindaMann01 I didn't get a chance to meet them to discuss, but they seemed to be commenting on the disastrous outcome. The whole conference session was was about collaborative archaeology with communities and the good outcomes that emerge. But it was a terrible outcome. They were shocked.
@boneybrooke @nthistorian Some of the crowd were disturbed by that revelation and some Maori delegates described the work as 'disaster archaeology'. The conference moved on though Rio copped a lot of flack that day.
@boneybrooke @nthistorian And these results were also presented at the Australian archaeology association conference in Dec 2018. Some audience members queried the management of the site. He informed audience the site was scheduled for destruction by Rio Tinto. Management out of hands of archaeos.
Just under a week until our conference on #digital#archaeology begins! This free conference focuses on digital and quantitative methods in archaeology, with a focus of work of archaeologists working or based in Australasia. Sign up here: https://t.co/s59ulKXkqD
@dirkmoses It's a huge part of academia in Australia, though rarely called 'networking'. I know some who have actually taught aspects of networking to grad. students. It's part of the job, really, and part of the path to career advancement. Personally always detested it though!
Great paper exploring the roles of the social sciences and the humanities in citizen science, producing more socially relevant outcomes and more:

@nicolabarker3 Disgusting and inexcusable, forums should be managed so as to not provide a platform for racist brain farts to be aired, let alone left 'up'. Write to the Dean of your Faculty.
Also, what kind of public health course that covers SDH leads to student posts like this??!
Looking for reading? How about these one of our Most cited papers?
