@shadows_control I would highlight that the moment you don’t want to be in a relationship anymore, for whatever reason, abuse or not abuse, your obligation to them is over. Many people struggle with this simple concept, unfortunately (abusers in pole position among this group).
@shadows_control Concepts of working hard and sacrificing to keep your relationship going are flawed. Training for the Olympics takes strength, commitment, sacrifice and hard work. Relationships don’t. They should flow effortlessly. If they don’t, we are in the wrong one.
@shadows_control Some of the comments are unexpected. Why should we be afraid to ask someone “what happened?”? Where is the danger? What’s the problem in “having” to ask who did it? What are we scared of, if a victim wants to tell us?
@shadows_control Perhaps we should be much more decisive in teaching young girls that they don’t need a reason, or others’ approval, to not fancy something/someone, that their love and consent can be withdrawn any time without notice, reasons, explanations, penalties, apologies or guilt feelings
@adalluch Oh, yes! We brought everything to perfection, didn’t we? Holocaust, slavery, religious war, racism, colonialism… it was all beautifully done! Clap clap clap…
@shadows_control I’m following your page with great interest. You are giving us all a significant insight into coercive controlling relationships that turns into practical help for victims. You are very brave and strong. Please continue!
@shadows_control absolutely right. Sadly, it is often the victim asking for couple therapy in an attempt to get some help, perhaps when they still hope the abuser can change. Difficult as it is, when I smell abuse I always refuse.
@shadows_control One husband turned up at one session with my patient, claiming she had asked him to do so (lie) and saying “I am here to listen” - fake supportive listening, in reality it was spying and control over what the patient had to say. I had to kick him out.
@AnaesUnited Terrible. We must stop training/supervising them, refuse placements and stand our grounds. Same goes for “non medical prescribers” and any other cheaper pseudomedical (un)professional entities our NHS employers might try to introduce, putting patients at risk for financial gain.
