Dr. Thamban Meloth, Director, NCPOR, chaired the Asian Forum on Polar Sciences (AFoPS) Special Meeting during the Arctic Science Summit Week 2025 on 22nd March 2025 at the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA. AFoPS is a 20-year-old association of leading Asian polar countries (China, Japan, India, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand), with significant scientific activities in the Antarctic and Arctic. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation among member countries and engagement with other polar organizations. AFoPS is now a special invitee to the US Polar Research Board and the European Polar Board meetings. India currently holds the AFoPS chair.

Water sampling in #Kongsfjorden. A collaborative effort to investigate the microbiome structure and its functions for a year. The view from the horizon signifies the transition of polar night to the arrival of the first sunrise in a week's time at #Ny-alesund #NCPOR#Lehigh#YESS
Historic discovery by NCPOR and NIOT Scientists! 🌊
India's AUV OMe-6000 has captured stunning images of an active hydrothermal vent on the Central Indian Ridge, confirming NCPOR's April 2024 discovery during near-seabed geophysical surveys.
The vent showcases chimneys, black smokers, and chemosynthetic organisms- evidence of active vent, thus marking a historic milestone for Indian Ocean hydrothermal vent exploration!
Seabed photography was conducted by scientists from #NCPOR & @MoesNiot, alongside engineers from Kongsberg, using the AUV OMe-6000.
A proud moment for Indian ocean research! 🌍 #DeepOceanExploration #ScienceInAction
