@SEH_Pang@EconovoAU Impressive effort by @Kryshpean21 & the @microclim2 team monitoring #microclimate & plant communities in 900 plots. Surprising that #elevation explains communities better than any of the 400 derived temperature variables - curious for what's going to come! 🏔🌿🌡

@Jolube2 @Kryshpean21 Sorry for the late response. We use Geoprecision loggers and in fact, we also need to use a "laptop". Geoprecision requires Windows and these are Windows tablets that are much more laptops than regular tablets.

Deadline: 30.09.2022.
Can host 1-2 individuals with interest in plant ecology and biology, vegetation science.
After two weeks, we are back on Schrankogel in the full strength. We are just starting with measuring of vital rates of our 4500 individuals. Hopefully we will finish until the beginning of September. Wish us luck and good weather. :)
For measuring the vital rates which will take later in the season, we temporarily marked our target individuals with longer bamboo sticks. So next time we come this year, we have much easier work to do.
One of the biggest concerns we had was searching for markings we placed last year in the field. We marked our target individuals with bamboo sticks, otherwise used for hamburgers. Heapily it turned out really good and the very most of the bamboo sticks survived.
Our fieldwork season has now fully started. After a year, we returned to Schrankogel to remove the neighbouring biomass always from the one of the pair of individuals that we monitor. ~60 species with ~30 pairs scattered over 450 spots with temp loggers. Some work to do. 💪
Post-doc alert! We are looking for an enthusiastic post-doc to work on thresholds and tipping points to #globalwarming in the ERC-funded project THRESHOLD @_SLU in #Umeå, Sweden. @ERC_Research Please #RT, or apply! 1/ 🌎🌞👩🔬🏔️👨💻🌲🏳️🌈

1/15: This week, we should have been in Denmark, getting all excited about #NordicOikos2022 by @NordicOikos.
Instead, we aren't.
To bring the vibes to you, I'll take the chance to show here some of the cool work our team did last year. As if we were there. Stay put for a🧵!
6/6 This counter-intuitive selection of genotypes is a likely scenario that could hinder rather than facilitate the accommodation of mountain plants to climate change!
Our findings highlight the crucial need for mitigating climate warming and an expansion of protected areas.
1/6 “Heat-adapted genotypes of alpine plants could become rarer under climate change“. Say what again?
Let’s have a closer look at this surprising result from our new #OA publication in #NatureClimate, a thread by@microclim2 team member J. Wessely.

5/6 To find out what's behind, we ran simulations on a modeled mountain slope. And indeed, while cold-adapted individuals dispersed further up the mountain, warm-adapted individuals restricted their ranges.
