An underrated bad 2nd order effect of DOGE's messy, very public failure is that it has tarnished future government efficiency efforts. Austerity was already considered lame by libs and now it'll just be labeled as DOGE 2.0, or repubs will just whine about hypocrisy because of the opposition to Elon's DOGE. Really, ending spending 20% of the federal budget on debt servicing and avoiding hyperinflation should be a bipartisan issue. We can have real arguments about what taxpayer dollars should be spent on but nearly everyone agrees that servicing debt should not be one of the biggest items in the budget.
