I am thrilled to share that my first publication is now live @PNASNews! I fell in love with science while 'hunting' DPO microbes on this project, and I'm so excited for everyone who reads it. Take a look if you like poop, microbial archaeology, or redox!

Huge congratulations to @blkdwnng on his first, first author publication! We are so proud of you-- Rnf actually stands for "Really Nice First (publication)"😎
Also congrats to co-author @electro_microbe!! Out now in @MolMicroEditors; read it here: https://t.co/JRVHHnG3s8 ⚡️🦠
Join us for a for a pre-print review party this Friday from 4-6 pm! Funded by @ArcadiaScience, we will leave helpful comments for recently posted papers on @biorxivpreprint.
I had such a phenomenal time talking about GBS, academia, and more FGT microbes with @KdoranLab yesterday! Thank you for spending the day with us, and thanks to @MicrobiologyMit and everyone for attending the first MIMI seminar 🥳 check out https://t.co/NqkXzY2Hc6 for the next!
Please RT: I am #hiring a Scientist, Bioinformatics / Microbial Ecology, (remote, Pacific +/-1 hour) to help @tracegenomics measure/understand soil biology for ag. Other open positions include Sr. Data Scientist and Sr. Soil Scientist. More info here: https://t.co/dB20d7w5HH
I was just asked to be on The National to discuss Roe and abortion...and then I found out it would be a panel with a "pro-life/anti-abortion" voice. I am livid and sent this reply. I couldn't care less if this means I will not be asked back to the CBC. It needed to be said.
Doing research to improve outcomes for pregnant women starts with the fundamental assumption that women deserve the basic human right of self determination. Without abortion, we don’t have that right. This isn’t just a “women’s” issue it is everyone’s tragedy today.
Prof Katharina Ribbeck cares about spit because she’s trying to deconstruct how glycans, tiny sugar molecules hidden inside mucus, work to keep a particular organism healthy. https://t.co/BlS5pWSAAS @WIRED@WIREDScience#itsreallygorgeous
Molecules found in mucus can thwart fungal infection; harnessing their strength could help researchers develop new antifungal drugs. “Mucus displays an extensive small-molecule library with lots of virulence inhibitors,” Katharina Ribbeck says. https://t.co/L6pTG624rh
I'm excited to share this new story on the inhibitory effect of mucins on Candida pathogenicity that came out today. This was a highly transdisciplinary collaboration led by Julie Takagi in the Ribbeck lab. Congratulations to all authors! https://t.co/DpYVVEZU39
The more infectious form of the yeast Candida albicans is a long filament (left). Ribbeck Lab have shown that when the yeast is grown in the presence of mucin glycans, it remains in its round, harmless form (right) https://t.co/3EnX5H4MTb @nchembio
Hot off the press! Check out this #glycotime paper lead by the Ribbeck Lab's newly minted Dr. Julie Takagi. Synthetic O-linked glycans can dissect the mechanism behind specific glycan - microbe interactions. Cool to the core...1 🍄🔬
Katharina Ribbeck @MITdeptofBE and @DrRachelHevey@UniBasel and colleagues profiled glycans from mucosyl surfaces and identified O-mucin glycan motifs that suppress C. albicans virulence. Free to read link: https://t.co/IH0db95Q2C
