Helping to change the world 🙏
We now have over 100 #citizenscientists in #Bradford and #Bristol collecting airborne #microplastics in their homes and we starting to analyse the samples returned.
There are only a few more places left, if you want to take part please register soon!

"At the current rate of production, more than 10bn tonnes of mismanaged plastic waste will be dispersed in the natural environment by 2050" 😢

BREAKING: the White Cliffs of Dover have been illuminated with the UK 'warming stripes' for #ShowYourStripes day!
These stripes represent the UK average temperature from 1884 to 2022 with blue colours for colder years and red colours for hotter years.

A great keynote by @BurfordBen in session 1 of #PlasticsFuture2023
Fantastic to hear about the @MicroscopeHomes project and the use of citizen science in microplastic research 🔬
It's #CleanAirDay today and here at @MicroscopeHomes we are counting airborne microfibres sampled by our #citizenscientists.
Microfibres and microplastics from textiles are an important, but poorly understood, type of indoor air pollution.
📢 Last call to return samples! 📭
To all our wonderful participants, if you haven't already returned your sample kit to us please do as soon as possible!
We are ready to start counting microfibers...

Wow, what an amazing response! Through @MicropscopeHomes 112 people will measure airborne #microplastics in their homes.
This data will build an understanding of how many airborne microplastics there are, what they are made of and how we can reduce them.
Thank you so much Dr Ben Williams for an inspiring talk about micro plastics in the air at tonight’s Climate Change Primary Education Network mtg. 70,000 particles landing in 1m square every fortnight! Check out @MicroscopeHomes for more info. @UWE_Education 🧵
📢Registration for @MicroscopeHomes closes on Monday!
Thanks to our #citizenscientists we are building a picture of the scale of the problem of airborne microplastics.

@microscopehomes is currently recruiting volunteers in #Bristol and #Bradford to measure airborne #microplastics in their homes.
In the film below one of our pilot #citizenscientists explains why she took part.

Very grateful to @UKRI_News for creating this video of the @MicroscopeHomes co-creative, citizen science, airborne #microplastics research project, as part of their 101 Jobs that Change the World series: https://t.co/kLQz7GNAY4
While our #citizenscientists are busy collecting airborne #microplastics in their homes we have been studying the samples from the pilot...
We place different coloured sheets under the sample dish to see if the colour affects how many fibres we can see with our #microscope.
Thanks to all the #citizenscientists that have signed up to measure airborne #microplastics in their homes!
Kits like this 👇are starting to go out. Looking forward to seeing what they collect!
