"#Facebook thinks a machine that decodes words in the brain's speech center could offer the speed of voice and the #privacy of text": https://t.co/L2NG4TFpWs Is that the right level of privacy for words inside our brains? #ethics#law#tech#research
"...a selection of popular apps, including those for Expedia and Hotelscom, can record what you do on your phone without your knowledge."

insurers will use health (and other) data in opaque ways that patients are unable to monitor or contest, and programs that incentivize people letting them do it are a Bad Idea™️ https://t.co/HDW3nXNxkt; https://t.co/pYoUs39g5m
We designed YT’s AI to increase the time people spend online, because it leads to more ads. The AI considers Brian as a model that *should be reproduced*. It takes note of every single video he watches & uses that signal to recommend it to more people 4/

Privacy is the foundation of free speech. Without it, people will censor themselves for fear of retribution by collectors and aggregators of personal information – whether a sleazy tabloid like the National Enquirer; Big Tech (Facebook, Google, Apple); or the FBI and NSA.
blockchain is proof of existence and to establish that proof you don't need trust. For it to have value or to be able to be converted into something else you still need trust yes. blockchain it is not all encompassing but that doesn't make it useless. https://t.co/tI7hEnkl7t
There is more and more opposition to bulk surveillance on the part of governments all around the world. The time is now to stand up and say NO: Surveillance is the antithesis of freedom; Privacy forms the foundation of our freedom.

Keep your eye on this space. German cartel office should give Facebook its orders this week. Again, none of this is about fines but limits on how Facebook can abuse your data for its own wealth. https://t.co/cdyqygGtQb
This is a deeply disturbing perspective on the humanitarian sector - esp. because humanitarian orgs won’t own the data.
I sincerely hope orgs retrench in value and values (the good and principled use of data) instead of continuing to slide into surveillance humanitarianism.
@EU_EDPS@Buttarelli_G So true: At the heart of privacy is the preservation of our freedom! You cannot have freedom without a solid foundation of privacy — just take a look at all the historic examples.
The right solution to bad behavior by a tech giant like Facebook or Google is not unilateral action by another tech giant like Apple. We cannot stake our rights to privacy and security on corporate turf wars. https://t.co/ceYkgQU5yA
