When I put Bitcoin on my Christmas list in 2014, the use cases were far and few between - thats changed
I don't know what things will look like in 10 years - but I see the pattern in how they are shaping TODAY across global financial institutions
Ill be updating as a thread 🧵
BREAKING: Putin has signed Russia's first comprehensive crypto law.
The Law on Digital Currencies and Digital Rights takes effect September 1, 2026.
What it does:
- Recognises digital currency as property
- Creates a licensed exchange market supervised by the Central Bank
- Sets up digital depositories to record who owns what
- Regulates mining, custody and digital financial assets
Retail investors must pass a knowledge test and are capped at 300,000 rubles (about $3,800) per platform each year. Qualified investors face no limit.
Only the largest and most liquid coins will be allowed to trade.
The Central Bank has said Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT currently meet that standard.
Crypto still cannot be used to pay for goods inside Russia. Banks can block suspicious transactions, and a 48-hour cooling-off period applies to wallet transfers.
Meanwhile the CLARITY Act is not on the Senate schedule, and the chamber leaves for recess in just 2 days.
