Daniel Sanchez Estrada wasn’t accused of attempted murder or material support of terrorism after a protest turned catastrophically wrong outside an ICE detention center in Alvarado, Texas. He was convicted of obstructing the investigation by moving a box full of antifascist zines after the protest. U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor gave Sanchez Estrada a 30-year term.
The sentences handed down today are a huge threat to the possibility of a democratic society. The prosecution is rife with constitutional violations, but 30 years in prison (more than anyone for January 6) for moving some magazines? 50 years in prison even for those not involved in planning the protest? The evidence of an illegal conspiracy is non-existent, but this is how the authoritarian dragnet targets those fighting against repression. Everyone should be learning about this case. https://t.co/XLki7OBuID
people who showed up to a protest outside an ICE facility and left when things got chaotic are getting HALF CENTURY sentences in federal court right now, my god

Every revolutionary in history looked at world-ending conditions and decided there was still a way through. If you think that’s “idealism” then go ahead and wallow in endless cynicism and despair but understand it’s building nothing. And no, criticism & cynicism are not the same.
🚨 BREAKING : Khalil Jamil Al-Masri has died from the injuries he sustained after being shot by an Israeli quadcopter drone while sitting at a cafe in Gaza.
After passing two death penalty laws in six weeks, Israel is investing hundreds of millions of dollars to try to execute Palestinians on live TV. Unanimous support for the laws shows that Israeli society can unite around “death to Palestinians.” https://t.co/gB35o8UKCX
@_pem_pem it's easy to understand why people wouldn't want to eat there! you're suggesting that this is where "the movement" is acting, but after years in the movement i can promise you all serious activists know where to direct their energy AND would always want to avoid an israeli place
