I'm starting to think Amorim's comments about going all out to win every available trophy this season may have been more of a 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆 than a reflection of Milan's actual plans. The biggest reason I say that is his 𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉 to the Europa League. So far, Milan have consistently rotated heavily and fielded what many would consider a 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅-𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒖𝒑 in every Europa League match. To me, that doesn't reflect a team treating the competition with the same priority as Serie A. I'm not saying Milan aren't trying to win these matches. Every player who steps onto the pitch wants to win. But there's a clear difference between 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆 and 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣. For me, the selection choices suggest Amorim's main focus is preserving his 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 while trusting the depth of the squad to handle Europe. I also don't expect this approach to change as the season progresses. Unless circumstances force his hand, I believe we'll continue to see significant rotation in the Europa League, with the strongest XI reserved for the biggest Serie A fixtures. That's my reading of the situation, and I think Amorim's team selections are telling a different story from his words.
