When you refuse to apologize to a child, you’re unintentionally teaching them that you are always right and that saying “sorry” is a sign of weakness. But children learn by watching you. If you never apologize, they grow up believing apologies don’t matter especially to you.

As they get older and become exposed to the “magic words” of courtesy; sorry, please, excuse me, thank you, pardon me, they start to see the contradiction. That’s when some children begin to look you straight in the face without saying “sorry,” no matter how much you expect it. And that’s where the frustration begins.

When children realize you demand what you don’t model, you lose moral authority. Eventually you’ll find yourself negotiating basic respect from them, simply because the foundation wasn’t laid early.

So yes, children deserve apologies and explanations.
Not because they are small, but because they are humans learning from you in real time. When you show humility, they mirror it. When you normalize apologies, they grow into adults who can own their mistakes.
