Comfort is a trap dressed as peace. When things get good, we stop trying. We stop texting good morning like we mean it. We stopped asking “how was your day” and really listening. We start assuming instead of asking. That’s how distance grows quietly.
My brother told me something about his fiancée today and honestly, and I’m curious to know if I’m looking at this the wrong way.
They’re engaged, and she told him that after they get married, she expects him to pay 75% of the bills while she pays 25%. They both earn roughly the same amount.
My brother said he doesn’t agree with that. He wants them to split the bills 50/50 because they’re both working and earning around the same income.
He even told her that’s how it was in our family. Our grandparents and great grandparents both worked, contributed to the household expenses, and shared responsibilities at home.
She told him that’s weird and that the man is supposed to be the main provider.
Now my brother is asking me: Is he being unreasonable for wanting a 50/50 marriage, or is she wrong for expecting him to pay more when they earn almost the same amount?
