#AAPIHeritageMonth
I am a proud Asian American and I will always stand up for this community, for my Obachan, my mom, my family, and those across the world experiencing hate and prejudice. Silence is complicity. Are you doing something to stop the hate? @StopAAPIHate
Anti-Asian scapegoating has been going on for over a century with devastating consequences for Asian Americans.
Keep reading to learn more about the harm scapegoating causes our communities — and what it looks like in the #2022Midterms. 🧵

This is encouraging news during what has been difficult week for #AAPI communities.
In the words of @RussellJeung, who testified in support of the #AAPIMuseum, we are hopeful that together, "we can rewrite an American story in which AAPIs are treated with dignity and respect."
For communities of color, including #AAPIs, street harassment has remained a fact of life. "Everyone thought I was Wuhan," says Binh, recalling his experience with racism throughout the pandemic. "Everyone thought I caused the virus." 🧵
26% of Stop AAPI Hate respondents reported facing racial discrimination while inside private businesses. And we are not alone.
According to a 2021 poll, 35% of Black Americans reported experiencing unfair treatment while shopping during the last 30 days.🧵
This year, #StopAAPIHate is joining a diverse coalition to make public places safer and more accessible for all — starting in our home state of California — with #NoPlaceForHateCA.
Watch this video to find out how our legislative package offers a #SaferPlace for all of us.🏡
If you have ever been whistled at, leered at, or subjected to lewd gestures or racist, sexist, or discriminatory remarks in the places where you live, shop, and commute, then, like millions of people in the U.S., including #AAPIs, you have experienced street harassment. 🧵
#NoPlaceForHateCA keeps us safe by:
🏥Declaring street harassment a public health problem
📋Collecting data on and recommending solutions to hate incidents in public places
🛒Empowering businesses to take a stand against customer-on-customer harassment in their stores
Here is the truth: women and girls of color, including Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, experience hate and harassment in concerning numbers. In fact, #AAPI women make up 62% of Stop AAPI Hate respondents.
Three years ago, #StopAAPIHate started documenting race-motivated hate incidents in the U.S. Along the way, we have uplifted a global movement for racial justice — and we are just getting a started.

Even after nearly two years of documenting incidents of hate, the video of the NY Asian elder being brutalized made me ill. We need to continue to advocate for victim services and violence prevention efforts #StopAsianHate@StopAAPIHate
Nearly 11,000 reported incidents to a single organization @StopAAPIHate. Yet, leaders are still mostly giving lip service.
Address the root causes. Activists and advocates have the solutions, listen to them. We don’t need hashtags. We need action NOW.
