My dear NIGERIANS , on this day, my heart breaks with every single one who speak up against this government 💔💔💔
Today in some areas in OYO STATE, some children are meant to wear bright clothes, sing songs, blow whistles, and eat pound cake and Jollof rice at school parties. Mothers are meant to braid their daughters' hair into perfect cornrows. Fathers are meant to lift their little ones onto their shoulders and whisper, "the future belongs to you."
But somewhere in a dark forest in Oyo State—maybe hungry, maybe terrified, definitely missing the smell of home—are little ones who are just two years old💔💔. Just one. Just learning to say "Mummy" and "Daddy." Children who should be smearing chocolate on their school uniforms, not sitting on cold floors under the watch of men with guns.
And the teachers—those brave, everyday heroes who showed up to shape young minds—now wake up each morning wondering if this will be the day they see their own children's faces again.
To every parent whose arms ache with emptiness: I cannot pretend to know your pain. The silence in your home must be deafening. The unwashed sippy cup by the sink. The tiny sandals by the door. The way you still catch yourself setting an extra plate. How do you celebrate Children's Day when your child is not in your arms? You don't. You survive it. Minute by agonizing minute.
But please hear this—you are not forgotten. Nigeria sees you. Weeps with you. We carry your children in our prayers and in our rage. We hold space for your teacher-colleagues who are also mothers and fathers and sons and daughters.
Today, let every church bell, every mosque's call, every whispered prayer in every home across this country be the same: Bring them home. Every child deserves a childhood. Every teacher deserves to return to their classroom. And every parent deserves to hold their baby again on a normal Tuesday, with no fear, no ransom, just love.
Happy BLACK 🖤💔🖤💔💔Children's Day, Nigeria. May we never stop fighting for the smiles of our smallest citizens. And may these precious captives know—across every mile of forest and fear—that they are loved, they are seen, and they will never, ever be forgotten.
