The Russian state is an authoritarian police state, based on nationalism and populism.
It pursues a war of imperial expansion because it claims that Ukraine is not a country. This war is genocidal, because the Russian empire seeks to erase Ukrainian culture and people.

@realDonaldTrump Bring Biden back. At least he wasn't servile to Putin, didn't attack America's institutions, didn't start the dumbest trade war in history, didn't set out to annex other countries and didn't destroy the US's relations with its allies.

@_Plac3_hold3r@LDHMarketing@shashj Not really. It was just an FTA. And the problem was that the US simply wanted to impose its demands, and didn't want to listen to the UK's side.
Which is fairly normal for US negotiators. It's why the US has so few decent trade deals.
@ushouldbeontv@Cyberdefensecom WW2 kinda was. Germany was defeated by the Soviets. The landing in Normandy to make sure that the Soviets didn't take all of Europe.
In the east, the use of tactical nuclear weapons on Japanese city centers stopped the war so the Soviets wouldn't take large parts of China.
@LarsonKellie@mcarr2021@PhillipsPOBrien@highbrow_nobrow Yes. So the US is going to invade Greenland, because war with the rest of NATO is going to be easier and less costly than supporting Ukraine?
Good lord, this is the stupidest timeline.
@dinahgirl88@ThomasE57249211@PhillipsPOBrien Sure thing. The US also needs to leave NATO bases in Europe. It can figure out how to support its wars in the Middle East and Africa from somewhere else.
If you think this was a disagreement about the mineral deal, you have no idea what happened. Trump was putting pressure on Zelensky to make major concessions, probably agree to Putin's demands, and get no security for Ukraine in return. And Zelensky had the courage to say "no".
@_Plac3_hold3r@LDHMarketing@shashj Johnson canned the talks in July 2019. Trump's TR was furious but Trump himself didn't seem to care.
I imagine a deal like that. Full "equivalence" in food standards, heavy restrictions on labelling, ISDS panels, ...
If they want to put the boot in, they can come up with more.
@_Plac3_hold3r@LDHMarketing@shashj The trade deal that the first Trump administration proposed was pretty bad. They "negotiated" for two years, but according to UK negotiators, it was like talking to a wall. They were just demands.
