Yesterday, four of the world’s most iconic tall ships raced head-to-head offshore before making their way to Boston for #SAIL250.
This weekend, they’ll sail into Boston Harbor led by USCGC Eagle for the Parade of Sail. Don’t miss it! ⚓🇺🇸 #fivesisterstallships
Most people don't long for the past because they believe it was perfect.
They long for a time when courtesy, responsibility, integrity, and respect were expected.
Although we can't go back, we can bring those values forward.
Which value does the world need most today?
Christ, thou who art the light and day,
Who chasest nightly shades away,
Thyself the Light of Light confessed,
And promiser of radiance blest:
O holy Lord, we pray to thee,
Throughout the night our guardian be;
In thee vouchsafe us to repose,
All peaceful till the night shall close.
O let our eyes due slumber take,
Our hearts to thee forever wake:
And let thy right hand from above
Shield us who turn to thee in love.
O strong defender, hear our prayers,
Repel our foes and break their snares,
And govern thou thy servants here,
Those ransomed with thy life-blood dear.
Almighty Father, this accord
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord,
Who with the Holy Ghost and thee
Doth reign through all eternity.
Lord God,
Please fill my heart with Your peace.
Calm my thoughts, quiet my fears, and remove all restlessness within me.
Let Your peace guard my mind and guide my actions.
Help me release anger, worry, and pain from the past.
Give me patience, understanding, and a gentle spirit.
May peace flow into my home, my relationships, and my future.
I place everything in Your hands and choose to trust You.
Amen 🙏

Too late? Just start
250 years ago today, a new nation was born.
This is how, a century and a half later, four hundred men carved its story into the side of a mountain...
The monument is Mount Rushmore, in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and how it was made is even more astonishing than how it looks. The sculptor Gutzon Borglum began the work in 1927, choosing four presidents to represent the first 150 years of American history: Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln.
The faces are each about 60 feet tall, roughly the height of a six-story building.
I put together this video so you could see the men who actually built it. Look at them, dangling in leather harnesses over the edge of the cliff, hundreds of feet above the ground, drilling into solid granite.
Around 90 percent of the mountain was carved away with dynamite, set by workers who learned to blast the rock to within inches of the finished surface.
Then came the honeycombing: drilling dozens of small holes close together so the last layers of granite could be knocked away by hand and smoothed. In total, they removed some 450,000 tons of rock from the mountain.
Many of these workers were miners who had come to the Black Hills chasing gold and found themselves carving a monument instead. The conditions were brutal, the heights were terrifying, and the work stopped again and again when the money ran out.
It took fourteen years. And in all that time, blasting a mountainside with dynamite while hanging from ropes, not a single worker lost their life.
On the country's 250th birthday, it is worth remembering that behind those four immortal faces are four hundred forgotten men who carved them out of a mountain...
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸

Dec. 25, 1776.
The American Revolution was on life support.
Six days before Washington crossed the Delaware, he wrote his brother a private letter.
"I think the game is pretty near up."
His army had shrunk from 16,000 men to under 3,000. Soldiers were deserting by the day. Enlistments expired January 1st. Congress had already fled Philadelphia.
The commander of the Continental Army wrote that the Revolution was finished.
Six days later he crossed an ice-choked river in a nor'easter with 3,000 exhausted men, marched nine miles through the storm, and attacked the most feared soldiers in the world before dawn.
At least two of his men died from exposure before they ever reached the battle. A cemetery near the crossing site still marks where they rest.
The plaque doesn't give their names, just "sickness and exposure." America's first unknown soldiers, 161 years before Arlington got its guard.
Washington chose a password for that night that said it all: "Victory or Death."
Our first president's tenacity built the country. It's still the most American thing there is.

A classic Italian proverb:
🇮🇹 Tra il dire e il fare c'è di mezzo il mare
Literally:
"Between saying and doing, there's an ocean."
In other words:

Ideas are easy.
Plans are easy.
Execution is the hard part.

NEVER IGNORE THE HOLY SPIRIT
Every holy decision begins with listening.
The Holy Spirit convicts, guides, strengthens, comforts, and leads us closer to Jesus Christ.
When He urges you to pray, pray.
When He calls you to repent, repent.
When He moves you to forgive, forgive.
When He inspires you to love, love.
Do not silence His gentle voice with distraction, pride, or sin.
The more faithfully you respond to the Holy Spirit, the more clearly you will recognize His guidance.
Today, ask Him to fill your heart with His grace, His wisdom, and His peace.
Come, Holy Spirit. Lead me always to Jesus Christ. Amen. 🙏🕊️
An Act of Faith
O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the holy catholic Church teaches, because you have revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.
Amen.
