🇺🇸🇪🇸 Asmongold's Twitch ban raises a much bigger question than whether what he said was disgusting
Days after the mass migrant influx into Spain's Ceuta enclave, Twitch suspended Asmongold after he argued that authorities should shoot people attempting to cross the border illegally, even saying women and children shouldn't be exempt.
His comments were extreme. But the free-speech question is more complicated than simply deciding whether they're offensive: he wasn't instructing his audience to kill anyone; he was advocating a government policy involving lethal force.
A free-speech absolutist would argue that even grotesque policy proposals must remain lawful political speech. Other democracies draw the boundary much earlier, criminalizing some expression deemed to incite hatred or violence against protected groups.
And that's where this stops being about Asmongold.
If an idea is considered too extreme to advocate, somebody has to decide where "extreme" begins. Today that might mean shooting border crossers. Tomorrow it could mean mass deportations, abolishing prisons, revolutionary politics, or some policy nobody has even proposed yet.
Democracy isn't tested by whether people are allowed to advocate ideas everyone already finds acceptable.
It's tested by who gets to decide which unacceptable ideas you're forbidden from advocating.

🇪🇸🇵🇱 Spain watched tens of thousands cross into Ceuta in a matter of hours, the biggest single surge the EU has seen.
Meanwhile Poland’s president keeps repeating the line from their own earlier crisis in 2021. When Belarus tried to push Middle Eastern and African migrants across the border as a weapon, Warsaw built walls and deportation centres, not integration ones.
2 different borders, same question Europe keeps dodging, do you manage the flow or does the flow manage you?

A friend of mine said that we should welcome illegal immigrants, so long as they don’t live near her. She’s now a former friend. My mom used to say, you cannot argue with stupid or crazy people. Her quote is in my new book. I still try, but without success.
🇪🇸🇲🇦 A video went viral: a Spanish citizen, stabbed in the neck by a migrant, left dying on the pavement.
It's false. Spain's Interior Ministry confirms it directly, zero deaths by stabbing in Ceuta between July 30 and August 1. Two knife injuries, both migrants attacking migrants, one after having an argument in the street.
One suspect's already been arrested.
The real incident list is bad enough without inventing a murder: stone-throwing, house raids for clothes off washing lines, blocked roads, stores shuttered from looting fears, and the army now deployed alongside police.
A fake stabbing video doesn't need to compete with reality here. Reality was already the story.

Her response?
"Have money... money's always important.
Be mysterious. Sweat, but don't sweat too much."
Thanks Cardi, that's clear as mud.

🇸🇻 El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele arranged a private helicopter for a 60-year-old woman.

🇺🇸 John Kasich is back to his usual sob-story routine over Haitian TPS ending.
"Think of the families!"
The typical emotional appeal to paint ending TPS as cruel and heartless.
He skips the fact that TPS was always meant to be, as the first letter suggests, temporary!
It's not a backdoor to permanent residency.
Haiti has been in chaos for decades.
Extending TPS indefinitely just kicks the can down the road while Americans are dealing with tent cities, record homelessness, and overwhelmed schools and hospitals.
America isn’t obligated to babysit the world forever when it can’t even take care of its own people first.
