A 15th-century château in Burgundy with a moat, a stone bridge, a carriage gate, a square tower, and a dovecote. €950k ($1.12M).
The only way in is through the stone bridge. It crosses the water and leads through the carriage gate into the tower. Once you're across, you're on a 3,500m² terrace surrounded by water on all sides.
470m² (5,060 sq ft) across two connected buildings. 8 bedrooms, marble fireplaces in the reception rooms, 3-metre ceilings, herringbone parquet, a Burgundy stone staircase with a balustrade, and a 42m² billiard room on the first floor. The second building is its own self-contained wing with a reception room, kitchen and two bedrooms, and it opens onto a terrace at the edge of the moat.
7.7 acres of land, including woodland across the stream.
This is near Clamecy, a medieval town in the Nièvre. Romain Rolland was born there and called it "the little Venice of the Nivernais." For four centuries it was the capital of the timber rafting trade that supplied firewood to Paris.
I watched a lot of medieval films as a kid. Never thought I'd be sending one to clients.
When was the last time you crossed a moat to get home?
