Sid Vicious's cover of the Eddie Cochran classic "C'mon Everybody" reached #3 on the UK charts following its release in 1979. Recorded in Paris for the film The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle, the track features Vicious on lead vocals and Steve New on guitar.
Bauhaus released their cover of David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust” as a standalone single in 1982, transforming the glam-rock classic into a darker, more atmospheric post-punk anthem. Although it reached only #57 on the UK Singles Chart, it climbed to #15 on the UK Indie Chart and reached #20 in Ireland.
David Bowie himself was impressed by the cover, reportedly telling Bauhaus that it was "the best cover of any of my songs." The band's version remains one of the most acclaimed Bowie reinterpretations, praised for replacing the original's flamboyant glam style with a haunting, theatrical atmosphere that perfectly suited Bauhaus' distinctive sound.
The #Beatles released their first EP, ‘Twist And Shout’ (Parlophone) 63 years ago today on 12 July 1963.
It contained four songs from the ‘Please Please Me’ album;
1. Twist & Shout
2. A Taste of Honey
3. Do You Want To Know A Secret (below)
4. There's A Place
"Video Killed the Radio Star" was the debut single from The Buggles' 1979 album The Age of Plastic. The song reached #1 on the UK Singles Chart, #1 in Australia, #1 in Japan, #16 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and became historically significant as the first music video ever aired on MTV, when the channel launched on August 1, 1981.
The video also features a young Hans Zimmer on keyboards, years before he became one of Hollywood's most acclaimed film composers.
